I have a 97 chevy 6.5 , It wouldn't start the other morning because of how cold it was and I never had it plugged in over night ..I'm assuming . Anyways it chugged and chugged but wouldn't start and I tried until the battery went click click. So I plugged it in and put the batteries on the charger but still the same thing. Are my batteries most likely toast? Would my glow plugs be a good possible choice for what is wrong with starting in cold weather. How hard are glow plugs to change? can a none mechanical person try to take on this job? should I get two new batteries as well? or am I barking up the wrong tree? thanks in advance

Pull your glow plus with a 10mm deep well socket on 3/8 inch drive. IIRC, they sit under the injector. Its a PITA to get to them but they will come out, so GO SLOW!
Get a couple alligator clips and some heavy gauge wire. Put the clips on each end of the wire, clip one end to the glow plug and the other to the positive battery terminal. Complete the circuit using the glow plugs hex head as ground, and it should show signs of getting hot almost instantly. Do it for a "3 count" and if it doesn't get hot it's bad.
Don't use a continuity tester for glow plugs because they can give you a false positive, meaning it tests fine but won't get hot.
Toss the bad ones and replace them. When you replace them, put the new ones in using the firing order to help with cold starts, and then finish with reinstalling the old ones.

Could be a PMD problem. Check on ebay for used tested PMD's
