The horsepower and torque ratings have been officially announced for the '07 Duramax. 330 horse and 620 lb./ft. This is 30 hp and 30 lb./ft. less than the '06 LBZ. What do you guys think about this? Are you disappointed that GM couldn't keep the HP up while improving emissions at the same time, or are you willing to accept this small power sacrifice for emissions compliance?

According to a GM press release:
"The new Duramax 6.6L V8 (LMM) engine delivers superior performance ratings. It is offered with increased power and torque for Chevy Kodiak and GMC Topkick medium duty applications. Versions are available with 300 horsepower and 520 lb.-ft. of torque, as well as a new 330-horsepower option with 620 lb.-ft. of torque.
Final advertised ratings for the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 HD pickups and GM's full-size vans will be released later this year."

This isn't a huge suprise. I expect every heavy duty diesel to be down on power for a year or two. Now if we don't see an improvement for '08-'09 then I'm disappointed.

Acutally, I just read an article that may contradict what I posted earlier. The 330/620 version is for the Kodiak and Top Kick trucks. According to a press release I just read, GM is promising that the '07 Duramax in the Silverado Sierra will have at least the same power as the '06 if not more. However, it does have a new engine code, LMM. This had better be true, 'cause Dodge announced the final output ratings for the 6.7 in the Ram 2500, and they're 350/650. It's expected the new 6.4L Power Stroke will be right there as well.

Those chips are going to be more expensive and harder to come by. There are tougher emisions laws next year. And the aftermarket guys have to work around that stuff.

Thats why I'm glad I live in south dakota cause nobody really cares about emissions.

Lucky you. Out here in hippie progressive California, they don't give anyone a free ride when it comes to emissions. Yeah, they're definitely going to get harder to tune and more expensive. But on a related note, supposedly the ULSD is going to be nation-wide, not just 5-state.

It dose not look good to lower the power, and torq output of any diesel engine today. When I ordered my 06 Duramax Silverado 2500HD I test drove the Ford,Dodge,Chevy. Out of all of them the GM product was Quick,Quiet,& Comfortable to drive. I ordered my truck while over in Iraq. I would not trade it for the world. I added the Rino linning to the bed. It is stock and the only thing I may change will be Tires & Rims. 360 HP / 650 FPT Rules!!!!
