I've got an 05 2500 4x4 Cummins....Just got into looking at performance mods...I don't tow much, im just a power junky and want to mess with a few cars and put a smile on my face everytime i hit it!!!

Any advise on your personal dealings with tuners,  air intakes , and exhaust will be much appreciated....

I can't afford to be rebuilding my tranny either, so advise on how not to tear up my truck, i.e. which power setting to use and how hard to run it.

Im new at this whole diesel thing, so ANY advise on power, mileage, and maintense will be VERY helpful!

Thank you in advance!!!  God Bless!

Everyone I talk to  say the Bullydog is supposed tho work the best with the Cummins. I wouldn't run mine over 120 hp all the time.My Superchip flashpaq is set on the lowest setting for all the time so I don't hurt my transmission.

I have a friend that tests out programmers for Banks. They gave him tree programmers to compare to... A Bullydog, a Predator, a TST and also the Banks. He tried them out on his 2003 Dodge 6sp, and he likes the TST the best. If a guy wants to run a TST, gauges are recommended since the limits set by the programmer can cause damage. Like a Pyro, Boost, and Fuel Press. Since the 05 has an electronic waste gate, the power seen from the programmers is enhanced.  TST seems to be a great product, but the choice is yours. I also hear that EFI live is coming to the Cummins. Don't know for sure but just a rumor.

Hey,

Thanks for all the input, but I ended up buying a Bulldog Triple Dog Power Pup w/Outlook monitor and a Volant polished 4" turbo back exhaust and a Volant cold air intake. I got it all installed, except the Outlook must have been bad from the factory.  I can't get it to power up. My local dealer is getting me a new one tomorrow.

The power is awesome on the extreme level.  It is fast, maybe not quite as fast as I thought the extreme level would be, but it was good enough to stay right beside a new 400 HP Pontiac GTO on the Hwy the other night.  I think I hurt the guy feelings  =)  HA!

I haven't down loaded the Crazy Larry program...Thats almost twice the power.  It adds 230HP and 450 ft.lbs. of Torque.  I still have the STOCK tranny.  Im araid that its gonna smoke the stock tranny even now.

Any suggestions on Tranny upgrades...Do I just need a Aftermarket Heavy Duty Torque convertor or do I need something else.  Im trying not to spend much more money, but I rather do preventitive maintinance, Ya know!!!!

OH YEAH...my fuel mileage went up by 3-4 mpg........AWESOME!!!!

If you don't drive in extreme all the time your tranny should be fine. With the Outlook installed it should defuel for shifts and it will back out power for EGT's at least Edge does.
p.s. the crazy larry is only 180hp for cummins its 230hp for the d-max.

I have an 06 2500 4x4 cummins with a 6" lift and 37 inch toyos. With no power adders I was getting around 10 mpg (engine is not broke in yet)

I intalled a bullydog tripledog downloader and outlook monitor, K&N FIPK, 4" custom straight pipes, and a Banks high ram.

In the tow/economy and performance settings I was getting about 12-13 mpg. I installed the Crazy Larry setting and ran it for 1 month. I was able to get 18 mpg out of it and the power was unbelievable. Then, the transmission took a crap (with only 9000 miles on the truck).

I just got the truck back from the dealer and I am running it on the extreme setting (without the Crazy Larry) and I am only able to get 14 mpg out of it.

I too need suggestions on what transmision upgrades I need to run the Crazy Larry setting full time.

That's what im afraid off....Running the Crazy Larry....I've been running just the reg. extreme mode.  If i keep it around 70mph or a little above on the hwy. I got an avg. of 19 mpg on a 600 trip the other day..

What did your dealer say about your stock tranny?  Did they know that you had the power upgades?  Did they repair it under warranty?

I've heard that putting in a heavy duty billet torque converter will help.

Let me know what you find out and who much you have to spend....

All I did was download the truck back to stock (I left all of the modifications on) and the dealership covered it under warranty. No cost to me.

I am still running the stock tranny and I can feel it slipping already. I am in desperate need of some tranny upgrades. These 48RE tranny's are crap.

And by the way....someone mentioned that the Crazy Larry setting was only 180hp over stock for the Dodge and 230hp over stock for the ford. That is incorrect....I contacted bullydog and the Crazy Larry settings are as follows:

GM - 150hp
Dodge - 230hp
Ford - 155hp

Dude,

Thats awesome that the dealer covered it.  What did you notice first about the tranny?  What was it doing?   I sometimes think I feel mine slipping a little when im below 70mph and the tanny has to downshift when I press the pedal to the floor in extreme mode....It still Hauls *** but it just seems a little if'y.

When a tranny starts slipping, is it just the torque converter or is it doing damage to other parts too?

Im not the most knowledgable bloke about tranny's, especially about heavy duty truck tanny's....

When ever you find out what we should do to prevent in problems using the Crazy Larry program, Please let me know.  Im really Jonesing to download it.......

I wanna smoke sum more fast cars.....I love seeing the faces when a 9000lb truck keep up with a high hp light car.....=)

Good luck man

the torque converter is the weakest link and needs to be addressed asap, reason being that when your stock single disk converter clutch starts to slip it sends clutch fibers through the system post filter which causes skuffed seals and low apply pressures worn clutch packs and sticking valve body solenoids and shuttle valves. upgrade your converter to something sturdy and upgrade your valve body to raise apply pressures. call suncoast converter and talk to Ernie down there (realy smart with the dodge tranys)
