OK guys I am new to this site. I have had a life long love of diesel trucks. I am very soon looking at getting a diesel. I am thinking either a cummins or powerstroke, simply cause I like the way the powerstroke looks but I like the reliability and simplicity of design with the cummins. CHEVY is out. No offense but i am not an IFS guy. It has nothing to do with the motor its just my opinion that a HD truck should not have IFS. I want all the suggestions and opinions I can get my hands on. So let me know and I look forward to hearing from you

well ben thats nice of you to say. waf0924 i agree that a HD truck shouldnt have ifs even if it improves the ride.

Duramax is the best way to go. I recently bought an 03 Duramax, with the lb7, with 215,000 miles. The truck was used to tow a 5,000 lb 5th wheel across country everyday. There are no leaks, there have been no major repairs, and transmission HAS NEVER BEEN TOUCHED, and shifts smoother than any other truck i have been in(just as smooth as the 08 duramax. There is no rust, and no problems, and i even paid a chevy dealer 189 dollars to fully inspect it, and came out with not 1 problem. The truck is stock, and has more balls than any other diesel ive been in (stock without being chipped), for 300 hp. Also, it has the leather headted seats, Bose system, everything under the sun and is the most comfortable ride out of all of them. my friends have powerstrokes and cummins, and all 3 of the cummins went through a transmission at under 140,000, and the fords turbos blew twice, and both have had electrical problems. I also just put in an edge juice with attitude controller with a 4'' turbo back exhaust, and i am getting 28.3 mpg on the highway...not a lie, in maine (hilly) i was getting 26.5, and i towed a 8,000 lb camper up to minute maine and was getting 18.9 mpg...So i would go with a duramax.....

You would...I wouldn't...To each his own, I guess. There was a guy on here awhile ago...said the same thing as 03Duramax, just loved his D-Max GM, used it to tow a RV to trade shows...had no problems and was bragging that it had 200,000 on it. Some time later his next post wasn't so rosy. Seems the 'old GM fell apart after 200,000 and GM wasn't to sympathetic. He said he drove the truck around with a sign on it telling what a POS it was...then he bought a Dodge. Just get the truck that YOU like!!!

waf0924 dont listen to 03 dumbSCHIT if you belive he is getting 28 mpg put of a stock truck with 200K miles i have some ocean front property in KANSAS ill sell you. all of the big 3 are good trucks. just depends on what you are looking for. you have already started in the right direction with saying NO to the junk ifs GM products use. as for the ford and dodge it really depends on what you are looking for they are both great trucks and both excell in different ways. just make sure you check them out very well before buying. dont want your first experience to be a bad one.

All of your posts have been very informative. Thanks 03duramax for the info but like I said I want something WITHOUT with the weakness of IFS so D - Max is out. I have been readin alot of your previous posts and you guys have me leaning either towards 06 / 07 powerstroke with the 6.0L since or the 05 / 06 cummins with 5.9. I have read some stuff on the new 6.7 and while the platform is the same as the 5.9, there have been certain variation in the electronics of the motor that limit and make difficult the amount of mods that can be done. ANY IDEAS ABOUT THESE TWO TRUCKS ?
