Hey, have you guys seen this? http://www.dieselmotorcycles.com/ Diesel dirt bike that gets 100 mpg! They were supposed to sell a civilian version, but they have too many orders for the mil-spec version right now. Can't wait 'til we can buy one of these!

You know... I'll pass.
These things seem perfect for the military, for what, I don't know. But I can't think of any situation I could get in where I would want one of these. Unless maybe I was trying to set some sort of record and needed the milage. This thing is big, heavy (really heavy), slow (relativly) and well..ugly..(new plastics should help that).
So yea, its cool and all.. but I'll just take my Honda 450.

i think the military would be in trouble if they started using bikes again.i mean cars and suvs offer more protection.besides what would you be afraid of?a 4 ton humvee or a 500 puond little dirt bike.?besides the soldier would have to stop and put the sidestand up and i think they enemy would kill him by then..

your assumption that it would be used in a combat environment is erroneous. we have a small fleet of them on base and they are awesome. For patrolling the fence, quick reaction to base intrusion (non-combat) investigation of debri on the airfield, for quick runs around base instead of taking the shop humvee. best part obout them is that they can be run on JP4, just like almost everything else in the military. there are many bases around that have perimeters that cant be patrolled by humvee's due to the terrain. also using a motorcycle allows you to patrol the same rough area quicker with lower impact.
-can you tell we think they are great

haha those are even heavier.. there are select few and far in between that would ever use such a vehicle in combat, that being the special forces in deep rugged terrain scouting a target, or in a fob or other camp where there is a more secure envirnment...
