I have a '99 24v cummins, that is my only way of getting around, and also does frequent trailer towing. How do these "drugs" effect the life of an engine when used sparingly?
Again, the truck in question is a '99 Ram 2500 4x4 24v, intake, exhaust, edge comp, FASS fuel system, BD exhaust brake, ats exhaust mainifold, PDR 14 sq. cm. non wastegated turbo, and soon to be installed: bosch 275 injectors.
I'd apreciate any input.

man i wish i could tell ya. i was wondering the same thing. i was leaning towards methanol for mine, but really don't like the idea of putting water into my engine. when i tow, i usually tow big. does anyone have any idea how propane or methanol does for mileage (what i need, only getting around 14 mpg on the 7.3). plus i want to be able to tow w/out the egt's going through the roof and the engine to last!!! she has an exhaust, super beefed up trans and 4 bank chip from bully dog riding on 35's. had an open element intake on her, but it ate up my turbo and my genius mechanic told me to go back to the plan jane air filter.

Look into a TYMAR intake, it's still a paper filter, my buddy put one on his '96 powerstroke, and he loves it. one day he had his truck in the shop, and I "borrowed" his air filter, and went for a test drive, I noticed my cummins breathed much better! Needless to say I much preferr this $30 filter over a 200 dollar plus filter setup that doesn't stop as much dirt! I'm kinda leanin' towards a propane kit, so far i've found out propane helps the diesel fuel burn completely, increasing mileage and upping the power!

hey, i dont know if you have gotten any type of injection for your truck yet or if you are going to read this, but propane in my experience is THE way to go! nitrous is good and adds a lot of power, but only at wot. water is supposed to be good too, but like previously addressed, water in the engine? wouldnt it rust or something? however, propane is like nitrous you can safely run all the time. and the company to buy it from... powershot2000. they have one of the best customer service of any type of company anywhere and are very knowledgeable! you can be running down the road at about 15-20 lbs of boost, and turn on the propane and its like you just laid the pedal to the floor without moving your foot! and the best thing is that you turn the flow on at say 5 3 lbs of boost and as the boost grows, so does the flow.

Hey guys, water in the engine? Every cubic ft of air cramed in to the engine is loaded with H2o depending on relitive humidity where you are located. In the old hot rod days , spraying water into your engine cleaned carbon off everything and also fighter aircraft from ww2 used water for power increase. Food for thought

Thanks for all the info blk 03. Havn't put anything on the truck yet, still eyeing a propane kit, I'm just wondering about MPG and EGT increases. Big Tom- I'll definatly take that into consideration.
Again thanks alot!!!!

here is my experiance with both: propane clamed to increase power better mpg and lower egts, it added power and because it acts as a catylist for the fuel my mpg got better, but when I got on the pedal my egts went hot and fast. now the water methenol is a little different not as much of a power gain but it did a good job controling egts, the system i have has a controler that is adjustable to when the pump kicks on and it is a must have for any water system, when it kicks on my egts stop in there tracks and my turbo spools alot harder. as far as the internal effect on the engine think of it as a steem cleaner for your intake and cylinders, when I went through my motor during the head gasket change you could still see the machining lines on the piston tops at 100k. if your interested let me know I have pictures of everything

What brand of propane system? What brand of water inj. system? Any chance the hot rod vp44+150 injectors+propane is the cause of the high egt's? I mean, Do you think propane injection would give me high EGT's with the modifications that have been done to my truck?

Im using a snow meth system and was using the msd propane. my egts were good untill the addition of the injectors and then my max egts were about 1400 full load and 700 at cruse, with the propane my cruse egts were about 550 but full load got past what i was willing to test(and fast). but you're right I have enough fuel to make it a problem. on a truck with less fuel mods a propane system would be the way to go for power.

That's what I figured, Some day when I fall in that bucket of money (yeah right)I plan on putting compound turbo's and a 70-100 h.p. injectors. what kind of MPG increases did you see with the propane?

my mpg increase was good about 3mpg, and one tank would last about 2 1/2 tanks of fuel if I left it on the whole time, if your interested in some options, talk to geoff at ETR diesel (call a few times he's hard to get a hold of) 1-866-986-7783

Those arent bad numbers on ur egts. With the blue chip and injectors i have seen as much as 1700 on my egts. I can be cruisin down the road at 60 and press the pedal about a quarter inch and my egts just go through the roof. How well would water injection control that.

a water meth system will generaly turn your egts down about 200' but you may not notice if you've had to let off before you hit your max, the turbo you have on the way will make the bigest difference (especaly if you have the auto in 00 with the smaller hy-35 turbo)
