I have a 2005 Cummins and I have a Superchips programmer with an Airaid intake. I would like to upgrade my exhaust to a T-304 stainless system, but I don't know if I should go with a 4"or5". And I can't decide if maybe I should go with the Banks Cool Duals or a (otherbrand) single exhaust system. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Read my Thread " I need suggestions about Upgrade!" or something like that. Its been a while, but I know it's been looked at quite a ***
I've got an 05 aswell....I bought a Full Polished 4" Volant turbo back system, and a Volant cold air intake....I love it...EGT's are cool enough too.
I running a Bully Dog Triple Dog with the Crazy Larry program. Dude, It's awesome Power and Great sound....Now i'm having to look into Tranny's / upgrades...This much power is gonna trash it soon....
Have you had any tranny problems?????
A fully built tranny and new triple disk converter is gonna run me about$4000 or so..Not including install........I don't have it right now...
My question is , Is just a New Converter enough or is all the other stuff Really required for long term?????

I know I am probably going to start a war here, but how does the Volant exhaust compare to others like MBRP, Silverline, and Banks? Honestly, I have some requirements of my own that I know I want to system to have. It MUST be T-304SS and it must be a Turbo back system with SS hangers. Other than that, I am open for suggestions. Should I try to find a 5" in stead of 4", or will it be to loud and have an annoying drone while on the highway? Should I remove the catalitic converter when installing the new exhaust system? And if I do, will my truck still remain legal in all 50 states? Thank you for getting back to me on these questions. I really appreciate all the help.

Well, As far as the T-304, im not sure about the Volant...As for how they compare with other, man, A big bent steel tube is just a tube to me man....The only reason I chose Volant is because the Whole thing was polished from front to back and that it had a double walled 5" tip welded to it as opposed to being clamped on....It just looks clean!!!
As for the drone!!! Well, I don't think you can get away from that...My Volant 4" without the converter has a drone...I imagine the 5" will be worse.....If you don't take off the converter, It may help on the noise, but then you may get higher EGT's.........50 state legal??? Not sure on that either...I'm a police officer and i've never bothered to look under anybody's truck for the cat and since there are no immissions test for diesel, I don't worry about it....Plus without the converter, the Black smoke is awesome!!!=)
Good luck on the search and let us know what you decide and how you like it, just in case I ever want to change or go bigger as well........
Oh yeah,,,,,What about your tranny?? Any problems yet???

Moffdaddy133: What kind of tranny are you looking at?
Been looking at Suncoast products...Emailed them, and they suggested on of their built tranny's with a triple disk converter for my power level..........
Garmon Diesel in McDonough GA can do the install.......
A friend of mine had his built by Garmon and spent about $3500...He's pushing little over 500hp and little over 1000 ft.lbs.of tq.....Says he has NO problems now........
Any other suggestions?????????
Do I really need a whole tranny???? What would just a heavy duty converter ***

Peformance wise I dont believe it makes much of a difference between a 4 or 5 inch. As for the catalitic converter I always tear mine out and never had any law problems even though it is not lega to do here in Texas. But never had anyone crawl under neath to look.

Regarding Transmissions About the dodge, if you get a good Converter and a good Valve body your tranny will last up to about 500 horse power EASY but if you plan on going past that you might wanna just rebuild the tranny

Dude. Check out Corsa. (www.corsaperf.com) They have a beautiful 4" system, that is either cat or turbo back, your choice. No drone, just fantastic sound.
I have had a catback system on my 05' for about a year and I love it.
As for 4 vs. 5 inch. Banks has some really good technical articles on their site, that talks about when to run what size. It all has to do with horsepower.
Happy hunting!

Hello, I put a Silverline 4" t304 ss turbo back system on my 03 ram. It sounds GREAT !!! Nice rumble, and gets louder when you open it up, It just sounds really healthy !!! I find myself giggling like a little school girl every time I tromp on it!!! I think The Silverline is an Excellent system... fit, finish, and quality !!! The only thing I changed was the clamps. Instead of those cheesy horseshoe ones, I got the stainless stepped SealClamps from Donaldson. (looks much cleaner with no rust rings). When my truck was up on the hoist at the exhaust shop it looked like a work of art !!! Check out Ebay, You might find a great system for a good price !!! Make sure it comes with the tip !! Good Luck !!!
