Y'all are crackin' me up! There's some good points from all three sides here! I've seen quite a few Dodge trucks with the Cummins out there with 600,000 plus miles on them, without engine overhauls. How many Chevys and Fords are out there with that type of longevity?
I'm very interested in your input, because I want a 4X4 truck that will last me well over ten years, I like to hang-on to them as long as I can. I don't want to make vehicle finance payments all my life, you know?
Thanks for your input

I noticed your running the 6 spd. I'm in the for a diesel and I'm on the fence about a 1 ton cummins 6 spd or the d-max. I'll be towing an enclosed trailer full of tools. Is it true that the cummins gets better gas mileage then the d-max? Regardless if its a 1 ton or 3/4 ton? I'm new to the magazine and a greenhorn to diesel trucks so bare with me gents. Long story short, I'm looking for a long lasting towing work truck with the best fuel economy. If there are certain after mods to make this happen please do tell. Can I have some help please.

What year of truck are you looking at? The pre '07 D-Max gets pretty good mileage. None of the big three get "good" mileage from '07 up. My buds company runs Chev's, Ford and Dodge and ask any of the drivers and they will all tell you that the Dodge out pulls them all. As far as autos go he likes the Allison, but has had every one out of the truck at one point... has had work on some of the Fords and the 5500 series Dodges are all to new yet, but I'll let ya know as soon as one fails.

yeah i'm looking at '06 and '07 both in the dodge and the chevys. That 6spd man tranny is really nice but I've heard that the dodges are really loud inside. WHats your average mpg even with all the after mods?

I've got the '08 longbed 3500 with the manual 6 speed and it's just as quiet as my '06, if not slightly more so. The RPM's really drop at highway speeds, and the ride is incredible with a set of airbags.
MPG runs about 15.5 @ 75 MPH on cruise with no mods.

Go down to your local Dodge stealership and drive a new truck and decide for yourself if it's to noisy.

I'm still looking for a diesel 3/4 ton or 1 ton. After reading and participating in the debates about the big three diesels; theres been alot of helpful info, on the three. It's cool to have everybody's input of what they like and don't like; once the pot was stirred. Thanks eveybody! I've noticed a few Ford powerstrokes for sale here in South Florida; right around my price range of 10K. I've read some input on both the 6.0 and the 7.3. I noticed alot of people don't care for the 6.0. I don't hardly haul anything more than a 1/2 ton can handle; but I want a diesel truck 4X4, because diesels are the way to go. I plan on moving to an area where I will need 4 wheel drive, within the next 5 years or so. If I was to go for a Ford Powerstroke; I know the 7.3 is practically bullet proof. What should I watch out for? or look for? Thanks for all the input everybody, Didn't mean to tick-off anybody in the debates of the big three. The stirring of the pot; sometimes gets everybody to voice-up some really great information from experiences and such. Let me know what y'all think I should go for in a Power Stroke 4X4 with around 10K cash.
