if the d-max and p.s.diesels are faster, more durable and a better engine, then why is all of the trucks that race at the track are cummins?the reason is because an inline-6 can take more abuse than any v-8 diesel.less moving parts, the parts that are moving are bigger and stronger, therefore you can put more performance mod's on it.when you are really putting your engine to the test on the track everything is on "kill".it's either going to run like *** or blow up.cummins can simply take more abuse than ap.s. or a d-max.now on the street a ford or chevy responds easier to your basic mod's than dodge does.{chip,exhaust,turbo,etc.}but you reach a level where you can't go any further with a ford or chevy without some major engine mod's.while you can keep putting more and more on a dodge with very little or no major engines mod's.dodge holds every quarter mile record until someone beats it cummins and dodge are number one.

Just look at the size of the con rod bearings on the Cummins there twice the size of the competion. The whole motor's over built I guess that's why it's 1022 lbs. I wonder how long it will take for someone to put the 6.7 crank, rods and pistons into a 5.9.

whats the bore and stroke on a 5.9,,and a 6.7,curiosity,coz i wonder what the ci would be?. and ive had bottom of the beer bottle daydreams about building a diesle powered beach buggy.you know mid mount engine, tube frame,3/4 or one ton axles, big ol tires, now which engine, would be most off road-able running down padre island? remember ,this isnt realistic...but if i win the lotto i'de build it. figure the v engines would have the advantage of "compact"? size, but i like the cummins. what would you do?

I think I read 480 cubes on the 6.7 and 359 on the 5.9.

400 or 402. I know the old Pontiac 6.6 gasser was 400, but I think I read somewhere that the Dmax is 402. The weirdest thing about the Dmax is that it's over-square, which is really unusual for a diesel (i.e. bore is bigger than stroke.)

I have heard nothing but good things about Cummins since I started coming on here. It's starting to make me revise my engine swap choice from d-max to cummins. Price is better anyway. I thought that the stock lbz was more of a hod rod than the 5.9.

Simple design too the I6. I liked working on them better in the Fuso than I did the Internationals.
