first of all, thanks for any feedback anyone might have.  I have a 2003 100th anniversary ed. crew cab, short bed, 4WD, 6L PSD with 85,000 miles.  Performance upgrades include banks six gun w/PDA, airraid intake, straight through exhaust, powershot 2000 proportionate propane kit.  I have some problems that have been discussed in other forums and some have been fixed already such as egr valve replaced because of dumping smoke pulling hills, and the truck was nose diving recently because fuel pump was getting weak.  now the truck is running good except i am having horrible turbo lag and some say its normal, others say its more than should be.  i dont know if its sticking or a sensor bad...?  after the lag catches up, it breaks tires loose going into 2nd.  however sometimes if i give too much throttle, the truck kinda cuts out and then comes back, i dont know if this is from the tuner or truck issue.  my last thing is after the turbo lag, etc. with the six gun anywhere above setting 4 with propane, my tranny is not shifting well at all...especially going from 3-4 gear (lot of hang)  and i need to know what upgrade would fix that.  do i have an actual tranny problem, clutch, too much or too little fuel going into that gear..? other than that the truck pretty much goes from 60-110 like nothing.  so basically...turbo and tranny...?  thanks for  yalls help and let me know what you think!

come on you guys, give me some advice!

I also have a couple other issues i forgot about before.  one is that in the mornings whether the tranny temp is cold or normal, the first time i take off, it shifts bad, hangs, etc.  then after the 1st takeoff, its fine.   Also, a few times recently (not every time) in the morning when i start it up, the glow plugs warming up sound different than usual and it idles like crap for about 3-5 seconds and then normal.  please let me know if you have any comments or advice! Thanks!

It sounds from what you are saying that like you mentioned it could possibly be the programmer that is causing the problems, because correct me if I'm wrong but the banks with the power PDA allows you to chanbe the shift points on the transmission.  So that could be causing the shifting problems.  Banks makes a transcommand that helps firm up the shifts and makes it solid all the way through the gears.  If you are pushing a whole lot through the truck I don't know what your pushing through it with the propane kit exactly.  You might want to look into beefing up the tranny and the torque converter before you have more problems.  As far as the turbo, and the glow plugs I'll have to see if I can get back to you on that with something.  Just a thought though have you checked the relays to the glow plugs and seen if there isn't a problem there?

Your idle problem when could is probably normal. My 03 6.0 idles like crap until it warms up and forget trying to drive for about 3 minutes. When the engine is col and the tranny is cold it will hardly move. After it warms up a bit it is fine. I am noticing it more ow with the cold weather coming in. My dad has an older 7.3 and has the same problem although it doesn't seem as pronounced as my 6.0

from what i read it seem that you are still running stock turbo and tranny with that much power it is garrented that not all of it is getting to the wheel. thats why it gos 60-110 like a bat ot of hell long gear allow the power to be used to it fullest the tranny is all ready shifted  and not near the torque as starting off . the stock turbo in the6.0 in known to lag..  look at ATS performance upgrades
your truck needs a drive train upgrade now

I have an 04 w/ the same Trans shifting prob.  Ford tech couldn't help but I did get good info from a non-Ford tech.  The tourqe Converter! The stock converter causes the shift problem and the only way to fix it is to flush and condition the tran more reguarly then Ford recommends or best to replace the converter.  ATS makes the best for power upgraded rigs.  Cost about 1400...plus install if not doing it yourself.

drive any diesel and they will do that if you dont let them warm up. if you start it up and take off right away (is very hard on diesel motors) of course stuff aint gonna work right. if you get up in the morning and try to go balls to the walls right when you get out of bed it dont work. same with your diesel pickups.

hope you guys dont start your diesel in the morning and just leave with out lettin her warm up a liitlr bit. they dont deserve to be treeated that way. any diesel needs to warm up before it goes. dont matter as much when its 110 outside but if its 50 or below you should always let it warm up for a good 5 mins or more.

FROM WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR COLD STARTING PROBLEM MAY BE WHAT FORD CALLS STICTION, LEFTOVER OIL IN THE INJECTORS IS CAUSING THEM TO STICK WHEN THE OIL IS COLD AND THICK. THERE HAS BEEN A FEW NEW REPROGRAMMS RECENTLY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, BUT IF ITS BEEN GOING ON FOR AWILE YOU MAY HAVE ONE OR A FEW BAD INJECTORS. THE TURBO LAG SOUNDS LIKE POSSIBLY A STICKING TURBO. IF THE TRUCK SIT ALOT OR EGR PROBLEMS CAUSE BUILDUP ON THE BACKPLATE AND CAUSE THE FINS TO STICK. WE HAVE BEEN DISASSEMBING THEM LATELY AND CLEANING THEM INSTEAD OF REPLACEMENT. AS FOR THE TRANS START BY CHECKING THE FLUID AND SEE IF IT HAS A BURNT SMELL.

well no the turbo lag is always going to be there. there is a pretty big turbo to spool up. this is why the 6.4L is good off the line. because it dont have as big of turbo to spool up. mine when you floor it it will sit there for about 2-3 seconds then when you get to about 1500rpms then you are off to the races. its just like a jetliner. they give it full throttle then sits for a little while then goes.

YOU ARE CORRECT, IT WILL ALWAYS HAVE TURBO LAG, BUT IF IT IS EXCESSIVE HE MAY HAVE A STICKING TURBO. IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT WE SEE EVERY DAY. THE 6.4L HAS A DUAL TURBO SET UP WHICH IS WHY IT IS BETTER OFF THE LINE. BUT IF YOU ASK ME THE 6.4L DOESENT FEEL ANY FASTER TO ME. I GOT THE PRIVELEDGE TO DRIVE ONE FOR DAY AND IT DOESNT SEEM ANY FASTER OR MORE POWERFUL THAN A 6.0L.
