Im looking to get a diesel truck Its Going To Be My First And I Am trying To Pick Bettween Gmc 2500hd And A Ford F-250 Desides Prefrence What Are Some Things You Could Tell Me About How These Work, Like Pros And Cons Of The Engines And The Trans..i Heard The The
Powerstrokes Have Trns Problems. This Will Be My Daily Driver And I Wont Be Doing All Kinds Of Pulling And puling..the Most I Will Be Doing To
The Truck As In Mods..would Be Some Rims And Tires, Exhaust, And A 4 Inch Lift. Im Not Going Crazy On This But Thats What Im For Sure Doing.I Looked At Adding A Programer And Increase The Horse Power And Torque Would This Break Anything. I Know One Guy That Bought A Brand New Dodge
And Put A Chip In It And He Floored It And Blew His Trans Out. I Dont Want To Worry About Anything Like That. What Would I Have To Do To The Truck If I did add all that stuff. Another thing that matters to me is I really want a front middle seat I hate how in the chevy's and other trucks when they have no front middle seat. I always need to carry that 6th person and I dont want to have to get the most basic chevy model to get that front seat.

What year trucks are we talking? The chevy 6.2 and 6.5 are IDI engines and are very outdated. The ford powerstroke Is all electronic which can be good and bad, but it's easier to upgrade. I drive a 96 stroker and I love it, but if you want good, cheap, easy power, find a cummins.

i would go with ford just casue of the fact they look way better with lifts then the chevys do. if your not gonna do any pulling with it i wouldent go with diesel. just casue of the fact it is very hard on diesel to be drove in town. i meen starting at stopping the engine alot. like driving back and forth to work. but if in fact you do want a diesel go with a ford casue i have 2 04 diesel 6.0L 1 has 132000 miles on it and all i have had to put in to it is new glow plugs. the other has 56000 miles on it and all i have put in it is oil and diesel still got the stock tires the tires are very good from stock. the bf goodriches. umm u said that ford has had trans problems but i havent heard anything on that. but yes the chevys have very very very good transmissions but the motor dont put out enough power to do what it is capible of. the ford is awesome for pulling and it is fun to burn some rubber at the light when a ricer comes up next to you.

Well kid, I am gonna tell you to go with a Chevy or GMC 2500HD. You get more frills for the dollar than Ford or Dodge. The Banks #'s show that you can get more HP out of a Duramax than any other without modifying the tranny. Fuel mileage in the 2002-2004 dominates all classes.
You will smoke all of your buddies ricemobiles too!
If you do decide to pull, you have the advantage of a 5 speed Allison with great downgrade holding power.
The 4" lift looks awesome with 285-16's and will ride better than any Ford.

As far as i'm concerned both would be fine. I am a Ford man and i love it but my buddy had a max and i liked it to. I have 2 7.3's and both are great runners. Both autos. The cubevan has about 220,000 miles on it and it still runs like a top, no tranny issues. The one advatage to the Ford is it has a solid front axle. But if your gonna do mostly highway driving the independent front suspension on the Chev is smoother. So in my opinion find a truck you like and go for it! No matter what you buy it will need to be fixed sooner or later. Keep your oil and your fiters changed and you should be fine! Hope this helps!

yes bentwrench but your alisson transmission is awesome just stock. if you put more torgue and horse power to it i have heard from my uncle a chevy dealership owner. he said that if in fact you do chip the duramax with the allison it will mess up that tranny so freakin bad. he said if you chip them you need to upgrade the tranny to or you will be sorry. yes i belive the alison is an awesome tranny but i would rather have one that you can feed more hp and trq to anf not have to do anything to it. in my 6.0 i jummped the hp alomst 200 and the trq almost 225 with the stuff i got in it. and i havent had any problems at all with the tranny or anything and it has 132000 miles on it.

I think your best bet would be a Cummins 5.9 liter or a duramax 2500. cummins will hold up for the rest of your life and the tranni is dependable. on the other hand the duramax is renound for the allison 6 speed and is growing in the diesel world.

You kids go outside and play while the grown ups talk. If you need a daily driver go with the GM you will get better MPG and it is way way more comfortable. if you plan on off road driving go Ford they have a stronger front end there is nothing wrong with the Dodge its just as strong in the front as the Ford and it has alot better engine, but the trans is lame unless you get a manual but for a daily driver I guess you will want an auto and you cant hardly beat the allison I like the GM trucks because I travel and Im at the point in life and age that I would rather be comfortable than have all the fear this and im tuff look at me im cool stuff the young people seem to be interested in
