What year are we talkin BBF back around 88 or 89 dodge started useing the 5.9 Cummins if I remember right they were not even intercooled or turboed back then. And I think Ford was useing the 7.3 around the same time It made under 200hp. so back then maybe but not a current cummins the advancements in todays diesels makes the old ones look slow and underpowered by comparison. But hears something to think about Mechanical leverage. basicaly if you gear something a certain way it will perform differently even the old M2A army Jeep with its 75hp. go devil engine wold pull a freight train because it was geared real low. so remember there is alot more to speed than HP A truck with 1 million hp will still only go 3mph. if thats how its geared

IN 89 FORD STILL HAD THE GOOD OL 6.9 AND I DONT THINK TH 7.3 CAME OUT UNTIL ABOUT 91ISH? NO TURBO UNTIL 94.5(PWSTKE).

If the 7.3 was in a 2 ton dump truck and the hemi was in a roadrunner id say hemi. If they were both in the same exact truck Id still say the hemi if they both had a huge loaded trailer id say 7.3 If it were a long distance race id say 7.3 because the hemi would run out of fuel first

hahahah good point maybe the hemi would win with a load of like a couple thousand pounds but anything over 10k# the 7.3 would win but it would have to be a turboed 7.3

im talking about 99-02 7.3 powerstroke i think the 7.3 would out pull it with a couple thousand pounds because its a diesel.

I dont know those new hemis are powerfull and there advantage is they can rev much higher than the 7.3 if you tromp down on one hard enough to drop a gear they sound like your coming out of turn 3 at taladaga but its still a gasser and as the weight goes up the 7.3 comes alive and the hemi cant make enough power to shift up. I say if your gonna race them you better load them down

Early CTD's were non intercooled, then in early 90-91, they went to intercooled systems. The thing that most people lose sight of is that the 7.3 PSD has a higher rev limit, and a bore and stroke that allows it to rev like crazy. The Cummins is all about the bottom end. Small bore, huge stroke (4.75"), big long rods. The most effective racers know that to get the job done with the Cummins, you have to gear that thing so that it doesn't rev so high. So if these two were in a tug of war, the Cummins packs more punch off idle than the PSD, but the PSD once it starts spinning, is stronger in the midrange and top end. If the trucks are of equal weight and hp and they were racing, that Cummins will pull hard every time you throw a gear at it, while the PSD can hold a gear longer. You just need a lot of gears with the Cummins because the powerband is so narrow.

yes yes yes the 7.3L wont beat it in a drag just stock but it will out pull it stock. the hemi is a gas i dont care what gas you got it wont out pull a newer diesel. if you got a 69 charger motor in a dodge with 900 hp it wont out pull the stock 7.3L remember thogh its not about hp around our pickups its all about trq. now if you get a non turbo diesel i dont think it will out pull the hemi. i know though the stock 6.0L will out pull the 7.3L just casue it does better at higher speeds with a load. the 7.3L is good for low end the 6.0L is good for high end. and if we was goin down the road and came to a hill with a trailer and floored the 6.0L would pull away. casuse the 6.0L is way better in higher gears then the 7.3L and the 7.3L red lines at like 3200 the 6.0L dont red line untill 4240 rpm so you can rev it way higher. bottom line the 6.0L will out pull the 7.3L any day. but the 7.3L will last longer without any problems. so its kind of a win win either way you go.

were pissin up a rope guys!!!
