hey shan, not knocking on you or anything but i am a cummins fan and grew up being and still am biased against fords but talking about the cummins pulling low end and not up top did you read the june article about mad dog's 1100hp f350? sorry no powerstroke there it was swaped out for a cummins and if you caught that side picture and caption he is building a f150 lighting drag truck powered by a 12v cummins. besides if youve ever been to a dhra race all it is is 12v's and a duramax

I just saw the vids of the dodge pulling the ford and the chevy pulling the ford it seems the fords go backwards pretty well but they seem to have a little trouble pulling something that pulls back.

yes they do because the ford can barely do anyhting untill the turbo is spooled up and by the time it is spooled up the opponet has already got the momentum in his favor.

my pickup will barely move my camper and boat when they are hooked together it can barely move them from like 0-5 but then the turbo comes in and it takes off...

do your guys u joints ever rattle when you have a big load on and it takes alot of trq to get her moving??? mine rattle whenever i take off when i have my camper on... it is prly not good for it but it makes me feel good when it does it becasuse then i know stuff i working... im sure if i floored with my camper i would either rip the hitch out or i would snap the drive shaft in half... im sure the drive shaft would go before the hitch but i know that hitch goes through a crap load of power when i got that camper on there...

lately my pickup hasent been putting out any and i mean any black smoke... i am not happy... i like it when it makes black smoke cause then i can smoke out the car beside me and when it blacks smoke that also makes me feel good casue then i know that i am making alot of power...

wow my dodge puts out so much black smoke... when i floor it i look in my mirror and no lie and im not exvagerating you can not see the car that was behind you... that is another thing i like about it... it smokes alot.

well its getting late andi gots to work towmorrow so i got to go... i will see you guys l8tr

were pissin up a rope guys!!!

As has already been mentioned hooking two pick-ups together like that is has more to do with traction than power. I used to have a 97 Tahoe with 285/75 BFG ATs. I killed a few diesel trucks with it especially when we were both in two wheel drive. I've also seen a Ford Bronco (in 2wd) pull a dodge dually(2wd) backwards like it was nothing.
A gasser with decent power and good tires, especially something that has a better weight distribution than a pick-up could probably kill most of the "high-powered" diesel pick-ups out there. After-all, How many videos do you see of Dodges pulling Diesel or even V10 Excursions around? An Diesel excursion would probably kick just about anything else out there when it comes to that type of pulling.
Anotherthing I might point out is that a powerstroke/D-max could be made to produce more low-end torque just like a cummins or vica versa(high end horsepower for a cummins). Determining where an engine makes power is determind by: Cylinder heads, intake and exhaust manifold designs, Turbos and camshaft selection. On a N/A engine cam and cylinder heads are the biggest determining factor but a somewhat diminshed(they are still very important) by adding turbos. These factors have a bigger determining factor on powerbands than actual engine configuration. After all why does Nissan use an L6 in their skyline? When it comes to performance L6 and V8 designs are both comparable. Its just that the design philosiphies of Ford/Chevy were slightly different than Dodges.

It's not all about the truck alot of it is the driver. Best fun I had WAS draggin a duramax from outside my truck. I put it in 4 low put it in low gear let out on the clutch and stepped out of the truck. we have it on tape but don't know how to show it on here.

i think that the traction is probably a big issue in this type of setup, the dodge probably has a better weight distro than the psd's... of course the driver has a big part to play as well, esp in knowing the powerband of your truck, i have a '99 psd and when i drop it into the lowest gear i can open the door and step out, and walk faster than it is rolling... so i think it is just in how it is set up to work... oh and if one of you guys is pullin 20k at 80 mph... it is just a matter of time till somethin REAL bad happens...

I was wonderin about these 80mph pullers on here pure crazy . My trucks would do it but why I usually poke around at 55 to 60 on straight roads and *** might ease around at35 or less on bad curves never know whats around the bend. I've been a volunteer firemen for almost 15 years and seen what happens at high speeds no thank you, not for me when i'm pullin my equipment around especially.

if you look at some of those vid's look at the chain/strap/bar that's connecting the trucks... one truck is always above the other... and the one who's at the bottom of the strap is actually helping the other truck get traction by pulling it down... it's only when the strap is perfectly level or strapped to the axle that you see what each truck is capable of... and they seem to be nothing but bottom end torque beating out...
