I've got a '92 K2500 that has had the 6.5
replaced.  Can anyone tell me how I can tell if it is the newer optimizer diesel
from GEP or the older 6.5L?  I don't know
when it was overhauled, but I'm hoping somebody can give me a serial number to look for or somethin'

Should be a Navistar logo in the valley under the intake. That is the newer block.

I could be wrong, but I pretty sure that Navistar cast the block or build any part of the Optimizer 6500. It is completely built and cast by AM General so you might try looking for AM General castings or GM castings to compare. As a matter of fact on the valve covers (if it is a GM) there should be a GM stamp.
