I am looking at buying a f250 with a 7.3 powerstroke.  My questions are how many miles can i put on it before i have problems. what kind of gas mileage can i expect.  what are some upgrades that can extend the life of the truck.  Does the 7.3 get better gas mileage than the 6.0?
Any comments are well appreciated

My truck has 228k and going strong. thats pretty average for these trucks. the rest of the trcuk and the tranny are the biggest issue with high miles.

fuel mileage depends greatly on driving style and the exact truck. 13 to 18 is what most people see

Check these sites out for buying info and mod info. there is too much for me to cover

Nope. Neither of them get any gas mileage.

As soon as they offer a Ranger with a Diesel in America, I'll be the idiot camping out in front of the Ford Dealer!

To answer one of your questions, the 7.3 gets the better mileage if your willing to sacrifice some of the power of the 6.0. I had the opportunity to own  a '97 powerstroke before i bought my current 6.0 and to be honest i wish i would have kept the '97. I think that the 7.3 is a much more reliable engine and the gas mileage is considerably better. Hope this helps

they do to mine gets 21 on the higway and in town 17. it weighs about 10000 lbs to with the diesel tanks in the back and what not. if you dont think that is good millage for that big of a truck i dont know what is. i dont my 7.3L gets about 17 and that is beeing really hard on it.       i have seen them in to the 300000 miles and there still hasnt been any major prblms with them.     my 7.3L has 110000 on it and it is still going really really strong. i am not expecting to get much more then 250000 out of my 6.0L but untill then it will put out more power and will get better gas millage if you ask me. i love the power diffrence in the 6.0L and the 7.3L the 6.0L will out pull it no questions asked. the 7.3L is good reliable motor but for the power diffrence i will go with a 6.0L over any other pickup.     i read on a superchips sight that the duramax stock have 360hp and 650trq and the dodges stock have only 325 and 471. that is not enogh to get the job done.  it was on superchips.com they dident say what the 6.0L was but i know what it is. the people selling the chips on the sight said that. im not sure if its true but i dont know. but if that is all the dodges put out that is worse then horrible that is drasticly in need of power.

well superchips better get their numbers straight as This mag in the new issue says that 07 duramax makes 365hp @3200 and 660 ft lbs of torque at 1600 rpm and as much as I hate to say it the duramax makes for power than ford or dodge stock.

If the 6.0 is so good, why is Ford Suing Navistra over Powre Stroke! Because, Navistar is accused of "NOT COMPLYING WITH THE WARRANTY COST-SHARING AGREEMENT. Don't get me wrong, I liked the 7.3; and the new 6.4L 08 POWRE STROKE,is To Much.

If your low on money and are forced to buy a Ford get the 7.3, drive slow, service it never missing an oil change, and it will last you a long long time.
