i have an 03 7.3 with intake 4inch exhaust edge chip. bad turbo compreser surge at 1800-2200rpm have to back out or shift down when in that spot with 20 foot 10k pound trailer. i have read many things saying it the housing, or its the wheel, and ford changed design. which is the right fix and the easiest fix do you have to removed the turbo to take out the wheel or can you hold the shaft from the back with the down pipe off. also heard of ball bearing garret turbo but pricy is it worth it i would like to reduce egt's when pulling chip defuels with load and pulling hills please help

a "WICKED" wheel is one fix. And an ATS ported intake housing is the fix. Wheel is much cheaper but you can still get some surge with it. BB turbo's are very expensive. There are a few other drop in turbo's that are availible for your truck. I don't know alot about them as I am an OBS (old Body style) guy but if you ask this question in one of these two places you will get lots of answers

as for your defueling problem go to your local home center and buy a mini air pressure regulator. set it to about 24 PSI and hook it into the MAP sensor hose. That will eliminate your defueling problem as its based on boost numbers. Put the regulator in there and the computer never knows again that it should be defueling.
Check the webshots link in my signature for pictures of my regulator on my 97
