well my 97 is pretty much a step above a 01-03 superduty with the 7.3 plus a chip. the injectors, HPOP, intercooler, and IDM are all superduty stock Items. the turbo housing, chip, exhaust, and intake are the only things that would not be stock on a superduty. I have never had it on a dyno and I can't even guess where its at. If I had a stage 1 injectors and a better chip (Dp-Tuner!) I would be right around 350 hp and probably 700 ft lbs of torque but those are just very broad guess'

Just a question for anybody that wants to answer. What's your opinion on the fs2500 bypass oil filter. I've seen in the mag the performance that guys can get out of it plus the extended oil change intervals. Do you really think it's worth $450.

I am sure the fs2500 works but its not the only show in town. I would suggest you look at motor guard, frantz and oil guard before you make a choice. If it means anything I am using a frantz. Frantz and motor guard have been around since the 50's or something like that and they are proven to work well. It sounds strange to use toilet paper as a filter for oil but it works. and it more cost effective. I bought my franz for $60 used on ebay. Filters (TP) cost $.50 a roll and then half a quart make up oil. The make up oil is very important on the powerstrokes becuase it keeps the oil additives up where they need to be. These engines can foam the oil if the anti foaming additives deplete and that is bad.

wow i've never heard of using TP as an oil filter before. Doesn't the paper break down at all? Thanks for the suggestions, i'll check those types of filters out on the net.

for info on TP bypass filters go here

http://www.bypassfilter.com/

to Jwhitetail banks is good stuff but it is far from costing less! and there are better options out there. One thing you guys don't know is that just becuase a company has an ad in this magazine it doesn't mean they are the best or the only option. there are companies that don't advertise in diesel power that are pioneers in diesel technoligy. And most of them are small. A few employees and lots of testing!

Hustler for your son he needs a new down pipe if not a whole exhuast system (tymar), intake (tymar) pyrometer (boost and tranny temp if money permits) and then he can a add a chip(DP-Tuner is top dog!)

here are some links for info. he needs to read the first one top to bottom

Two top forums on the web for ford diesel period!

http://www.tymarperformance.com/

http://www.beansdieselperformance.com/

And he should look at my webshots in my sig and ask me any questions he has. Also if he wants to know alot about these truck he should read those two forums I posted. I post there daily and there are alot of other great minds there with years of experience modding and repairing these trucks.

they also cover superduties with 7.3 and 6.0's

wow thank you bud... i will have him read them. he only wants to put about 500-800 in it so im sure he can get that stuff and maybe a chip or programmer. i told him if hes going with a chip to put a hole new exhaust system on it because he will need a bigger exhaust if he puts a chip in there. i told him it would get to hot but maybe now once he reads this he will do the smart thing and put the exhaust on it.

my cousins son asked me something. hes got a 1998 ford f150 with the 4.2L V6 in it. it gets about 18mpg. but he was going home 4 days ago in a 40 mph head wind and couldent keep the speddometer over 70. and he was interstate. he said he needs  more power and that what the power id just wont do. he was reading in the owners manual and it said its only got 205hp and 255lb ft of trq. the motor is only 256ci. he asked if i did some stuff to it and make it have as much power as a stock v8 5.4L would it get better mpg then then the 5.4L becasue there is only 6 cylinders pumping instead of 8. i told him i dont know for sure and would ask you guys... cause i know you guys could probably help him out.

it gets 18mpg. he said the 5.4L gets about 20. and he is looking for about 21 or more mpg out of it.

he just wants more power. he said its preety bad when your on interstate and there is a pickup with a big camper coming up behind you and passes you like you are standing still. he said he just wants a few more poneys to get the job done. he is debating on just getting a 5.4L but he was wondering if he could put some money into this pickup and have it have as much power if not more then the 5.4L and still get better mpg.

he would love any comments or feedback you guys have. thank you

sincerly,
Shan AKA "bigdog"

can't help you much with the gasser. I can fix but I don't know much about more powerful. They are not nearly as easy to tweak as diesel. well at least without spending big money.

as for the gasser its pretty much the same concept as the basic diesel upgrades intake exhaust and a chip ive only had experience with the hyperpac on the ford gassers other than that your on your own

Shan, as far as the gasser goes, look at spending a bit on $$$ to get it anywhere near the 5.4L.  You'll have to put headers, complete exhaust system, intake, ingintion (recommend jacobs), larger throttle body, etc.  I've built 2 pre-runners out of these trucks for friends, their ok on the open desert, but stuggle with any real load on them (big sand hills).  The 4.2 is a fairly strong motor though, and can handle a turbo sytem here's a sit that might help: http://www.fordf150.net/mods/
