Ford Super Duty beast now belches fire; is recalled
Posted Mar 21st 2007 5:28PM by Chris Tutor Filed under: Trucks/Pickups, Recalls/TSBs, Ford
Ford is telling its dealers to put on ice sales of some 2008 F-Series Super Duty diesels because of -- gulp -- reports of flames shooting from the tailpipes. Ouch.
Luckily, only about 8,400 of the trucks had been sold, with the remaining 29,000 still on dealer lots. So far, only three owners have reported the fiery problem and no one was injured. Ford says the issue stems from leaking fuel injectors in one case and a cracked turbocharger shaft in another. In both cases, Ford says the leaking fuel ignited in the diesel particulate filter near the tailpipe.
Apparently, according to Ford spokesman Dan Jarvis, the problem can be fixed with a control module upgrade that will "power down the engine" when extreme temperatures in the trucks' diesel particulate filter are detected.
its is a real beast of a truck now that it shoots fire hahahaha

As long as they use International there gonna have trouble by the time they get the bugs worked out ill bet we see a new diesel for the s/d built by ford themselves.

I'm a Cummins guy, but I really feel sorry for the 8400 people who have spent thier hard earned money.......and may or may not get the proplem fixed...What if they(ford) don't buy back the trucks and just let the new owners suffer the big loss on resale.........
Man!...Keep us posted on this issue....Can't wait to hear what happens next.....I'ts like a FORD soap-opera!!

Sounds like more lawsuits to me, maybe Ford should bring back the 7.3 or even the 6.9 cause they are just moving backwards on the whole diesel thing. I wonder if they charge extra for the marshmellow roaster? lol, The new slogan should be Built Ford Tough(except the motor.)

Hey everyone!!! This is not a new concept, but if we all just ignore anyone who curses, talks major hurtful trash, and just plain does not deserve a response, THEY'LL GET BORED AND GO AWAY!!!
Who's with me????? Spread the word on each thread.....Either way, We ALL know that they would not act like that or say that kinda stuff to our faces!!
Any way, I may agg people on a bit, but its only in clean fun.....I did get a bit out of hand once with BBF, BadAss, and DCDAVIS (OR WHAT EVER)but It's not worth it.......Our time is to valueable to waste replying to them......If they wonna clean up and start posting like mature adults then maybe we'll let them back in...
Anybody else agree??????????

Another reason to switch to a Dodge or Chevy. Ford says it will be building its own engine in 2010. I think its time to ditch the Navistar, they are having problems even in their VT365 powered school buses. I like all the trucks for different reasons and Ford's 6.0 and 6.4 are a failed attempt to keep up with the big dogs(Cummins and Duramax) Chevy will come out in 2009 or 2010 with the 6.9DMax rated at 400hp and 800 ft.lb. torque. The Cummins can get there, but need an Allison to handle the power.

this is getting ugly now. navistar is suing ford. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/05/02/navistar-slaps-with-ford-with-2-billion-lawsuit/ dont hink it will be long till we see the passing of powerstroke. and btw CAT has said they are not interested in the light duty truck market so it will be up to ford to make their own diesel engine
