I think you guys are missing the point. This is not a brand loyalty fo ford dodge or chevy. Think of it as Cummins great reputation of Semi engines heavy equipment and so on, Powerstroke(Navistar) same great rep in the large truck world and boats (cummins and duramax too) Duramax eventually through the trails of life... Detroit. They all have their good and bad points. Its all on how they are treated, not who builds the best.

HEY MY FIRST POST
I havn't even bought a diesel yet, and even I have opinions on this,
I own a 06 f-150 supercrew, (terrible mileage, power... what power)
I work for a contracting company, where my daily driver is a 06 dodge 3500 dually 6 sp. bone stock minus roof rack with lights, leveling kit 33's and some fancy dancy pocketstyle fender flares.
Thing rocks, I have also spent alot of time working on and driving a 06 f-350, with airaid intake, some half ass tuner, 4 inch cat back system, and a 6 inch lift. on 35s. ( i drove it befor and after all this)
Overall cummins is a muuuuch better engine, I like how stock fords look over stock dodges, but with both of them modified, i pick the dodge over the ford, interior, king ranch owns, laramie, *yawn*
its not about if your towing, or chasing a deer through a cornfield
It all depends on if you are a dodge man, or a ford man. I love both, I give the ford the nod for their finishing ability, interior on the high end fords are the best domestic you can get.
but I like dodge for everything else
![]()
Im in the same boat, ford or dodge, and its either going tobe a 08 king ranch f 350, or a 06 3500 megacab (WHITE)
its up to you bud.
(also, for power adders, the cummins has far larger gains per upgrade compared to the powerstroke)

and here is the old company truck (this ons is on me), tried to miss a deer in the rain, failed, (04 2500, leveling kit, 33s, etc etc)

that got fixxed to, then traded in for the new ram 3500

2006 2500 cummins - 2018 dr performance predator module, ppe excellerator (set to performance), 5" flo pro exhaust, s&b cold air intake, ats air intake manifold, ats exhaust manifold, mild trans upgrades. Dyno - 464 hp. and 827 tq. I absolutly destroy my friends 2005 ford 350 w/ banks big hoss kit.........never even close. Off the line all the way to 110mph....Really, duratrash's are for women who take their 8000lbs horse trailer to shows, the new fords are already recallin' 35,000 units! They say their blowin' flames! Hard to see that when you're in front of them! Look at the fastest trucks! All 5.9 cummins, and I'm not talking about project X either! I'm talkin' trucks goin' less than 10.00 second 1/4's...............Truly the best engine ever! Wait till they hook up that new *** tranny! Eatin chevy and ford all day!

We had 3 2004 and 1 2005 6.0l powerstrokes in my company and EVERY one of them gave us nothing but trouble. We run a very strict service program and we use Rotella T 15w-40 oil. 2 trucks had steel shavings coming out the drain plug, and every one had bad electronis problems. Eventually my boss got so sick of dealing with them we traded them in on 2006 GMC duramax trucks. So far we haven't had any trouble with any of them. Personally I am a dihard Cummins man. I haul a 25' gooseneck trailor with fertilizer usually totaling 19000 GCW. My rout runs me down RT.77 through the mountains and I have never had a powerstroke pass me. The only major disadvantage Dodge trucks have is the auto tranny.

Hey Adam_Bomb, on that white mega-cab, what size are the tires and rims on that thing? Is there a lift kit or is that just a leveling kit up front? That truck looks sweeeeeet. I've always thought the mega's look badass with bigger tires, but they look kinda dumb with the stocks on.

haha, yea man, vancouver, well bowen island, just outside of west vancouver, but I moved a month or 2 ago, my family bought a ranch up in the interior, and i bought 20 acres right next to it.
white mega cab, 6 inch lift on 37's (toyo mt) on 20s (diamo 17 karat) (that truck is on ebay, i wish it was mine) lol, all i have s toyo mts and a leveling kit on my stock f-150
Some that does repeat itself is everyone puts the cummins in everything, the fummins 1100hp f-350, drag drunks, chevs, custo built rigs always seem to have leaned towards the cummins.
where you boys live at.

Hey 93ram, my family owns a trany shop in Ohio and well when it comes to Dodge trucks it's there sylanoid pacs *spelling not for sure how to spell it*, Chevy it's always there sunshell gears, or the transfer case cracks do to the fact that Chevy gasoline trucks use the same trany as the cars, and well Ford is what we do the least trany wise gota love 4r100's, and E40Ds. I'm a ford man, but the 6.0's suck big time in my oppion, so when it comes to pulling, Dodge has it as long as you replace that pac and once you do the only thing that ruins them is if you over work them by towing a Cat dozer, you know the ones the size of houses. We had to redo one becuase of that.

i love these guys that say their cummins makes more power than their buddies stroker. well obviously, the only requirements to build a cummins motor are 10$ and a 10mm wrench. you have to know what your doing to build a powerstroke.

haha i own a psd and i know that cummins can blow my doors off... sometimes simple really is better, i love my truck all the way around. it is just all in what you are partial to. pretty much pointless to argue about power because to get real honest answers you have to take each of the big three to the dyno and do it yourself...
'99 7.3 psd, afe stage 2 magnum force intake, banks six gun tuner(+62rwhp), superchips 1705 max micro tuner(+110hp), 4" mandrel bent exuast, 6" lift, ranch hand front and rear replacement bumpers, custom lights and lots of other cool gee-wiz stuff. member- blowin smoke gang

That has GOT to be one of THE most ignorant statements I've seen around the forums in quite some time.
It's quite apparent to anyone around here or anywhere else for that matter, your a poser. Pretending to do diesel performance work. When the facts are, you probably haven't even put an exhaust on a powerstroke.
How about this one for ya....There are VERY few PSD's that produce good power. There are even fewer that are competitive in ANY racing/pulling circut. There may be some that win the little brush pulls around. I'm talking REAL pulls with REAL competition. The top honors go to Cummins 90% of the time the other 9% go to the Duramaxes and the last little 1% is Powerstrokes.
Don't believe me? Show up down at the Diesel Nationals sometime. Oh wait... You didn't know there was such a thing did you....
To answer the origional question: I highly recommend getting a 97 or early 98 12v Cummins. Easy to get power out of and the king of milage. (22-23mpg) They can also be the king of power. The P7100 injection pump has a failure rate of about 1%. As far as the truck goes, just check it over for the typicl things, rust, and front end parts.
