the V6 4.2L puts out 270hp and 420 lb-ft of torque the V8 5.6L puts out 325hp and 500 lb-ft of torque in an 0 to 60 test it hit 60mph in 8.8 seconds thats two-tenths of a second slower than a Ram when fitted with a Hemi 5.7L gasser trust me that 5.6L weights at least 200 lb more than 5.7L Hemi fuel milage Hemi get about 14 that diesel get around 24
Let the good coal roll I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken!!!

And inside talk is both engines will make considerbly MORE power than above when they are finally released. The V-8 will be for the 1/2 ton Rams and the V-6 is slated for the Durangos and maybe the Dakotas.
The new issue of Diesel Power Mag talks about the new 4.5L V-8 Duramax 1/2 ton diesel. Preliminary reports put it at 310 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque, but may be closer to 340 hp and 590 lb-ft by the time it's released. It is also the same physical size as the 5.3L gasser. Which means it will fit in anything a small-block Chevy can fit into.
I myself would be the first in line for a 300+hp diesel Dakota!!
2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Laramie 4x4. H.O. Cummins, 6spd manual trans, 4.10 gearing. Intake, Exhaust, Hot Juice, HTT HTB2 62/12/65, Jake Brake, 305-65R17 (33 x 12.50) Pro-Comp Extreme All Terrains, SBC Con O FE, Fuel Tank Vent Mod, Various other gizmos.
I-6 Cummins guys are keepin' it straight. Those other boys swing both ways.
