Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge

Ok, for all you guys out there who like to compare each engine in a "NON" real world test, here is something to think about.  All three diesel engines in the Ford, Chevy, and Dodge, now make well over 550 ft lbs of torque.  Just how much power does it take to work these trucks in real world tests?  The real question is, how durable is the truck itself?  Can each truck handle pulling a heavy load in everyday situations?  Sure, the Chevy is a good truck.  Probably the best diesel engine today.  But, the truck is junk.  It has a junky front end and small cab room.  But the engine and trans. is great!  Now, we have the Dodge.  Great, powerful diesel engine, but as with the Chevy, junky truck!  Weak trans. small cab space, junky front end, weak chassis.  But the engine is great!  Then we have the Super Duty Ford.  Once again, good engine, may not be quite as powerful as the other two, but after 550 ft lbs, who is counting?  Strong front axles, manual locking hubs, strong chassis, strong rear axles, strong transfer cases, decent transmissions, huge cab room, and the fact that you can permanently mount a 15,000 load on it and put it through real world situations for 150k miles with little problems.  I can promise you that a Chevy and Dodge will not handle that kind of load, everyday, with several different drivers, for that long.  Enough said!  JUST STROKE IT!

I am a die hard Chevy fan from way back.  I work with a F350 everyday, and own an F250.  At my work, we have ran all three vehicles and the only truck that will last in my line of work is the Super Dutys.  Yes, we have had our share of problems with the 6.0, but most of them honered by Ford.  The other trucks just will not hold up building power line here in Okla.  Sorry, but FACT!!!!!!!

I am ready for the so called bashing, truth is hard for some people.  I have seen a 2001 F350 regular cab long wheel base, with a utility bed full of tools, and a reel of #2 ACSR wire, pull out our INT. 4300 Altec basket truck, or our Digger truck from the Okla clay several times.  And the only thing that ever broke was the log chain!  FACT!!!

that may be true, but for most of the people who own diesels nowadays, very few will use them to their full potential.

look at so many of these metropolitan areas with all kinds of people that do all sorts of crazy *** to their trucks that will never tow anything above 3k, or ever be put in 4wheel drive, what matters to them is what it looks like and what the dyno says. shure you can build your truck up till the moon exploded but realistically no one will be towing anything any distance with a 1000hp truck.

no one ever really goes much farther than the basic chip, intake and exhaust anyway so just because a certain brand has more trucks above 900hp is a mute point. i own a psd and i love my truck.

i guess my two cents is that people will use, and keep using what works for them. your psd's might be ideally suited for the jobs that you are doing out there pullin wire but there might be a dodge or chevy somewhere doin a better job of doin something else.

'99 7.3 psd, afe stage 2 magnum force intake, banks six gun tuner(+62rwhp), superchips 1705 max micro tuner(+110hp), 4" mandrel bent exuast, 6" lift, ranch hand front and rear replacement bumpers, custom lights and lots of other cool gee-wiz stuff.

Good point Murmanpsd7.3.  I over looked the fact that some people use their trucks for nothing.  Thanks for the insight.  All I was stating was that the "Truck" was designed for what?  Work.  Why elese would you need 550+ft lbs of torque.  To go shopping at the mall?  NOT!  To pull something, or haul something.  I was making the statement that the Chevy and Dodge have good power plants, the truck itself is weak!  You read on here about people wanting to know which truck will win in a race.  A race of what?  Speed?  How about time.  Put thier trucks in real world work, put them in the muck.  Haul heavy loads everyday, do what the truck was intended to do.  Then let time be the judge.  We still use Fords for a reason.  Not because the PSD are underpowered as compaired to the DMAXX and CUMMINS.  Because Ford is the only truck that will hold up for what we do.  And that is WORK!  Dont get me wrong, I know that people can hop up the PSD to make gobs of power, but I am talking about right from the factory.

I have used all three brands of vehicles in working and non-working situations.  Ford is a better work truck, Chevy is a better luxury truck, and Dodge is a joke......if it weren't for the cummins engine Dodge would have folded up years ago, they have always been third and will forever remain.  Woooooo.........they sure knocked the socks off everyone with the introduction of the HEMI!!!!!!!  Consistent with their JOKE title.  Remove the cummins and you have a warranty claim waitin to happen.

I work heavy equipment, so I am around diesels all day. All of the mechanic trucks and laboror trucks are ford powerstrokes. 7.3 and 6.0. And EVERY single one of them has had major mechanical problems. Everything from broken suspensions to transmissions, and engine controller malfunctions. If you ask any of the mechanics I work with which is the best truck out there they will all tell you the Dodge!! Ask them what they drive, and they will all say Dodge is the truck you will find in their garage! And as far as the new 6.7 cummins, it just means there is that much more power to be had. And these are guys who have been turning wrenches for 20-30 years.

dodge, chevy, ford pick one and drive it they are good if you are a daily drive or occ tower
as far as gassers I would go with a chevy hands down and don't argue with that you ford and dodge guys cause you know thats the truth just go to jegs and compare the crate motors hp to hp torque to torque GM motors are about half the price
and that goes for you Nissan/Toyota(same difference)guys out there too

Take out the Cummins, and Dodge would be nothing.  Thats funny.  Our mechanics both drive Ford and Chevy.  No Dodge!

how can you talk all that *** about the dodge truck? I only have about 200k on my 12v but nothing on the truck has gone wrong except a snap ring poping off in the t-case, and a starter. I have no idea how many miles are on my old 6.9 but its parked because the front end is about to fall out from under the truck and it would be more expensive to fix than what that p.o.s. ford is worth. not to mention all the problems i had with the hydraulic clutch system.
