I drive an old school 97 PSD. I just put the banks power pack in and I'm really happy with the results. I can't say I use my truck every day but when I do I am usually pulling my skid loader. I wonder how many people on this site have never had a ball in their receiver? I know some manufacturers are making their heavy duty trucks more like luxury cars, but to me a truck is still a truck. I am a firm believer in solid front axles, heavy frames, and drivetrains that are up to abuse. The new automatics are much better than the first automatic overdrives, but I still believe the manual is the best bet.

Then you would read the sticker in his back window that reads "YOU BEEN STROKED"!

I think each brand has its place. That being said, I do a lot of interstate driving and began to notice all the transport trucks pulling new RV's (5th wheels/travel trailers) to various location via I-80. So I started to tally each brand for a six month period. What I discovered was Dodge accounted for just under 60% of all the tow vehicles, while Ford was 25% and Chevy was 15%. This is by no means a scientific study, but what it tells me is if I want fuel ecocomy and reliablility I should buy a Dodge to pull my RV. Just my 2 cents.

I've always wanted to do that down here in Baton Rouge. Just count the different brands and see which one has the most on the road. There are more trucks on the road down here than cars, it's ridiculous! Course...it's the way it should be!

I have two balls to pull with. "My hitches that is" And, I use them to pull my rock crawler Jeep CJ7 all over Okla. I can load my Jeep up, all my family, and the dog, drive three hours, with plenty of room, and never get the back of my seat kicked. By far the largest cab. Well except for the new mega cab Dodge. Which doesn't have the room side to side over the Ford. I mean, do you really need a slideable rear seat???? That is like putting the old de-icer under the fender wells of the old Camaros. Just Stroke IT!

PS: My truck pulls great with 525 ft lbs of torque.

Yes I do! That back seat is so sweet, I don't know I many times I've been on a snowmobile trip to the mountians or four wheeling somewhere and wanted to recline back and relax or take a nap, I want my front one to recline, why not the back too?

Well I work for an RV transport service that employees just over 2000 drivers in the towable division, and over 90 percent of them including myself all drive Dodges. We tow everything from 3,000lb 16ft travel trailers to 14,000lb fifth wheel trailers, overall common average being about 8000-9000lb travel trailers.
I have always been a die hard Chevy fan, but truth be told in numbers. If the other two really were better then why are so many professional drivers staking their bread and butter on Dodge.

Thanks PhatB. I was hoping one of you guys would pipe up. I knew that there was something to all the Dodges pulling RV's.

haha, i love how almost every single one of these forums turns into a fight about one of the big three... and everyone has a different opinion on which is the best. personally i couldn't care less about stuff that doesn't apply to me, i drive a powerstroke, shure there are better trucks out there, and sometimes i wonder w.t.f. IH was thinking when they designed this engine. other times all i can think about is dropin a gear punchin it and powersliding the county roads that wind all over the place.
why don't we turn this one into the craziest/dumbest thing you have ever done with your diesel or that you have seen done with one.

I've got a 99 F-350 7.3 with 315,000 hard miles on it. This truck has had no major mech. problems yet. But my 2004 F-250 6.0 is getting ready to go back to the shop for the second time to fix what I beleive to be the rear seal again. Both great trucks but I may switch to a Dodge if this seal problem is not solved.

back to the RV fifth wheels, although there are almost twice as many strokers as there are cummins and duramaxs combined, i started to notice and yes it is about 80% cummins pulling the big fifth wheels and still even more duramax's than powerstrokes. but the biggest thing i noticed was one of the biggest fifth wheels i have ever seen at a flying J and it was hooked to a single wheel(non dually) 6.5 chevy, i didn't notice whether it was a 2500 or 3500, but it was not squatted down at all but i know that poor guy didn't have an abundance of power pulling that thing around!!!!!

where was that? i did the same thing and counted the trucks on the road pullin big trailers over labor day and i counted 3 times as many fords pullin those trailers than dodges or chevy's? i am in northern california and it is all mostly hills and grades with almost no flat land at all, just another observation...
