well if your planning on putting many many miles on it get a cummins. if you want luxery and awesome pulling power (probably the best in the business at high speeds) then definetly get a powerstroke. the cummins will outlast a 6.0L powerstroke but the stock powerstroke will out pull it. if you want a offroad pickup go with cummins if you want a nice and comforatable familey truck go with the powerstroke. now finnaly. if you want to be know as a cummins lover. (typically people who are hard on there trucks and the truck will take it) then definetly go with a cummins. if you want a truck that you are going to take good care of and not beat too heck for example. "going through a corn feild at 80 mph chassing the troghy buck you have always wanted to kill. then definetly go with the powerstroke. if you want style and good looks go with the powerstroke. and if you want a nice all around truck that you can go through *** and back and it will still run go with the cummins.
bottom line is if whatever you do needs a pickup that will take a huge beating and still run fine... the go with the cummins. if what you do involves just driving on road and not too much offroad go with the powerstroke. im not saying powerstroke is weak im just saying that the powerstroke has been knowin for a great over the road truck. the cummins is knowin for the great offroading and the amount of beating they can go through and still run.
all in all it all depends on what you do. ask anyone on here they will say the cummins is a better crawling pickup like if you want to go up something steep but need to do it slow. the cummins has awesome low end trq but the top end aint that great. the powerstroke has not to good lowend trq but it is awesome at high speeds. that is why a powerstroke is so aweseom under a trailer on the highway or interstate they are aweseom at high speeds.
im sure they will pull about the same but the powerstroke will pull away from the cummins on a hill.
so just get what you want the deciding factor is what you want. we can tell you how good all of them are but in the end you will still get what you want.
good luck and i hope you get a good truck... no matter what it is.

hands down cummins has it all, but if your stuck on having to settle with a powerstroke then don't get the 6.0

^ agreed dont get any of the last two engines (6.0, 6.4). if you absolutely have to get a 6.0 get the 07 or 06 and dont even think about the 6.4 as they are way too new. a cummins with some simple mods can be quite a powerhouse and they get decent mileage and the low end torque is great

^^^^ agreed but the the high end torque is not that great in the 07 6.7L i gots for my guys to drive around in.
there is nothing wrong with the 6.0L i have noticed that the only people that the 6.0L mishapps are the ones that run the cheap and crappy oil. i run rotella T 15w 30. one of the best oils you can get for a diesel. i have ran that since day one in my 6.0L's have not had a single problem (with the motor) ever. i think if you run the right oil it is probably fine. what you mean the 6.4L is too new?? whats that mean? note: i run rotella T 15w 30 in it to and it has been fine for 8329 miles. my 6.0L has been fine for 149,783 miles and my wifes 6.0L has been fine for 63,541 miles.
i just bought a ats 80mm turbo. should i try to put it on myself or should i take it too rapid diesel and have them put it on???
i no i can do it but i dont want something to go wrong.

^ as with any new engine the kinks still have to be worked out. i would wait like 2-3 years and see if the engine still has a good rep. if it does then it is a good engine. and about the high-end torque of the cummins. i rarely get mine above 2500 rpms much less the 2900 rpm redline. i forgot what the redline was on the 6.7's but i bet it is lower. the cummins dont like to be reved that high and there isnt really any point to need to either.

Well im looking for a used truck im kinda leaning towards an old 7.3l power stroke, i realy like that bodystyle. I do alot of highway driving but i also go to the coast with my four wheelers so i need some power for the hills!!!! I want be able to drive this truck off road as well!!! Thanks for the input and keep it coming!!!!!

by old 7.3 i asume you are talking about the 94-97 body stlye. i actually have a 94 powerstroke and i am impressed with it, but at the same time i still pefer the cummins over the stroker but the only disadvantage that the dodge has is not haveing a quad cab until 03. during that time period the powerstrokes had more factory power than the cummins unless you get a 96-98 w/ manual transmisson they had a lil more power than the autos. but if you plan on modifing a diesel which if you get one you will want to the cummins is the only way to go.
