I don't think that adding performance parts is a bad thing to do, you just need to understand what else you might have to do to make the truck perform like it should without breaking parts. My 5.9 was running like S until I added some mods and now it sounds better and runs better.

well just got word from the dealer... and here is the list of what they found (adding to the one i posted earlier) 3 melted pistons, 2 shattered pistons, 4 shattered valves, both heads warped and damaged, 2 cylinders scratched BAD and one that is unrepairable, 2 bent rods, and a bent crank... the good news is that ford is going to put a new engine in, extend my warrenty to 150,000 miles, and pay 6 months of payments, i was also told that if i had another problem with the drivetrain that the truck would be taken and i would be given my choice of ANY new truck i wanted for free. i am happy with what ford has done but it is due to them really not liking my lawyer. also ford is paying to change over all the aftermarket parts to the new motor.

your trucks not junk just too much junk on it for reliability. all depends on what you want to use it for. I'm on my fourth ford diesel. started out with an 89 f250 hd with a natural aspirated 7.3. Best truck i've got is my 03 f350 six spd 7.3 longbed ex cab. pulls a 28'gooseneck daily gcvwr around 30,000. it's got superchips power mprogrammer which I run on the low setting. No probs  only thing I've had to do was replace the starter bolts. That truck also has won me five truck pull trophies at our local tractor pull.Never been outpulled

Just a set of 315/75 r16 goodyear mtr's an aem brute force intake and the superchips programmer. southeastern NC is where we are, Just above wilmington NC. Not a pullin fanatic just like to show up at our local pulls every year so I can hear all the guys talk about how they are gonna get me this year. STILL WAITIN. Alot of it is Experience No better place to learn than being a farmer. If one of our tractors won't pull something  we gotta make it pull it.

:
now 6 or 7 months ago i bought an 08 6.4L 4x4 350... it is awesome to... it has 17000 miles on it and i have seen 24 mpg outa it... that is beein easy on it... most of the time i get 19-21 and 15 under a 18000lb trailer... cant ask for much more then that.     i love ford but im converting to dodge now and am still gunna love ford but am gunna drive dodge...

I can't believe this statement, all other evidence indicates the 08 6.4L psd gets poor fuel economy. Mine certainly sucks. 11mpg mixed, 14 hwy, 8 towing 6K. And from all of my research over at dieselstop.com my mileage is pretty typical . I just wish I had researched it better before I bought it, I would have saved myself the 7K upcharge for the diesel and still gotten similiar mileage.

I tell ya I'd pooh if my '02 Dodge got fuel economy like that! My truck hangs around 19-21 mpg and even if I'm a retard on the skinny pedal for the whole day I still get 17!

It's all thisemmisions crap. My 03 f350 7.3 would get 22 or so unloaded 15 -16 pullin my gooseneck. Tried an 05 dmax(but kept ford no trade) 13 mpg unloaded 9-10 pullin trailer. traded got an 06 f250 6.0l 15-16 mpg 10-12 loaded. powerbands are too high in rpm range. my old 7.3 pulls harder at around 12-1500 rpms than these new motors do until you get to 2000 + rpms. not why I bought diesel powered truck I want low end pullin power not a drag racer.

What you need is the trusted 7.3L. You couldn't GIVE me a sicko, 6.0L. It's a junk motor. Don't believe me, look how many are in the used car lots!!!

Ive never personally owned a ford diesel but im a farmhand for my girlfriends dad and he has a 1999 Ford f-350 with the 7.3 and it has 260,000 very hard miles. A lot of local teenagers have worked for us and they abused it. It regularly pulls huge loads, and its been in 4 head on collisions at 50+ miles an hour. One kid was even jumping terraces with a gooseneck cow trailer it came unhooked and wiped out the back of the cab. That truck still runs great, well considering all it has been through. I cant say the same for the two duramax's that they've got, less miles, now towing, no performance mods and both of them have been through a couple injectors and a few other parts. My dad was a diesel technician and the company that he worked for had twenty trucks in their fleet and they were all fords with the 6.0 and he said they were terrible. Him and all the other techs refused to work on them, so they always took the m to the dealership, and at any given time at LEAST half of them were at the dealership. One of my friends dads owns the local ford dealership and he said he already having people bringing in their 6.4s with problems. I have 230,000 miles on my 99 dodge and tow huge loads all the time ant it runs fine, i dont like the automatic transmission, but im definately buying another dodge when i sell mine, just with the 6speed manual. Im sure a lot of ford awners will argue with this but i wa a ford guy to, ive seen all this with my own eyes, when the dealership owners son disses the trucks that they sell, that should tell you something.

The 6.0 is truly a blunder. It was meant to be lighter, more powerful, and more friendly towards the environment than the 7.3 was. Unfortunately the 6.0 weighs more than the 7.3, its power is doubtful, its injectors are half the size of the 7.3 injectors, and yeah its a diesel so its nearly impossible to make it friendly towards the environment. I think it was just meant as a building block on the way towards the 6.4 clean diesel engine, which I hope is better.
Personally I've only ever driven 7.3 powered Fords from the F-250-550 when I worked construction. We had a fleet of about 15 Ford diesels and very rarely did they have problems. I own a 97 F-350 7.3 with nearly 170,000 miles myself and have had only minor problems.

everyone knows you cant have a 6.0 chipped to the nuts and tow something heavy without the head gaskets blowin out.
1. get a pyrometer
2. actually watch it
3. take the programer off of performance mode when towing.
my uncle is a service writer at ford dealership and the 6.4 isnt looking that great either.
the cummins is a damn good motor. too bad dodge didnt build the rest of the truck as good as the motor.

its like wipeing your ass with a hula hoop, its endless
