I BOUGHT A 1989 FORD WITH 7.3 DIESEL. WHAT IS THE HORSEPOWER AND TORQUE ON THIS MOTOR? ALSO WHAT CAN I DO TO BOOST THE POWER AND TORQUE WITHOUT A BIG INVESTMENT.

I believe the horsepower was 180 and the torque was 345 lb./ft. I'm assuming it's the normally-aspirated model. I think Gale Banks Engineering sells a turbo retrofit kit for it. But I've heard they're starting to phase out some of their older kits. If it's the IDI turbo, I think it's 190 horse and 380 or 390 lb./ft. ATS sells a turbo housing upgrade, and supposedly you can tweak the boost up a little.

175HP & 360#/'...those are the numbers....Cut the muffler off and add a straight piece of pipe, put in a K&N Filter & buy some new alloy rims if you are running steel rims....you will notice a lot of difference right away...ATS has the Aroura 2000 bolt on kit for $2100...$900 cheaper than Bank's....good luck....I have a 91 7.3 Normally Aspirated also....have had a number of PowerStrokes and loved them all, but this little monster came alive by just doing these few little mods...you will be impressed...

here is a link to an article about turning up the pump. heed his warnings about having a pyro and small adjustments.

hypermax's turbo kit is the better of the kits offered. they have put much more engineering into the kit and it is designed to run very well with the ford idi motors. 1993.5-1994.5 had idi turbos from factory. all other years were naturally aspirated.
94' F250 7.3L turbo diesel extended cab 4wd IP maxxed out, Autometer Phanton II pyro and boost on a-pillar, straight piped, E40D auto and 3:55 gearing. SOON: stage 1 injectors, high performance transmission, and 5in flapper stacks! SOMEDAY: 4in lift with 37's and maybe twins once hauled two gravity wagons with beans. Rig weighed in at 30,280#! and the only thing slowin me down was the bad wagon wheels!(and snow) it chugged with pride right up the snow covered ramp where a suburban with one wagon needed a tr

Will you get the same effect on a 7.3 turbo and if so it seems like it would be very loud?

No eastcoast. There is no pump to "turn up". It mostly has to be done in the computer.
