I've got an 03 and at 103K it started making white smoke at idle after it was warm. I took it to my dealer and they changed all 8 injectors. When I drove the truck with my 5th wheel for the first time, it only got 6 MPG. It has done 10-12 for the first 100K and 5 years. The dealer said everything checked out good and GM will not let them do anything else. It seems that GM is supplying only Remanufactured injectors to its dealers and I think there might be some quality issues here. Also my research indicates the prime cause of the injector issue is particulate matter in the diesel. The old diesels ran an injector pressure at 2500 to 300psi. The new ones run at 28,000 to 30,000 psi and the particles in the diesel cut away the seats and valves. A secondayr fuel filter that has a 2 micron rating might help ($200 to $250)for a good one.
Was there any degredation of your fuel mileage with your new injectors?

See that is why you go to a diesel mechanic and not Through GM as their just overwhelmed by the injector problems.Besides a registered Diesel mechanic can put in a similar but better injectors.

Hi, I have an early 03 (think an LB7) and I understand that there is a code stamped on the injector from manufacturer that has to be put in the PCM when the injector is installed. The question is when the injectors are remanufactured does the remanufacturer stamp a new code on the injector so the PCM has the correct flow data for the new injector?

I have an 03 and mine started doing that then progressed to making white smoke when warm. The injectors are bad is what the dealer told me.

Yeah white smoke is almost always from bad injectors. But I would take it to a diesel mechanic not affiliated with GM and have him place a different injector on the truck.See if that helps any.

Does anyone have information on IQA codes having to be reprogramed in the ECM & GPCM after injector replacement on an LB7, 03 dDuramax? ID# 1647659 is the doccument number I was given, but the dealer said it only applies to 06 & later?

i am a duramax guy from up here in canada and i was just reading about your injector problems and the injectors were done in my 03 2500 a week after i bought it at 58000 kms i hope they got it right and i don't have the same problem again.
Any way i am here to recomend an awesome fuel additive i have recently found it is diesel clean + cetane boost it comes in a grey jug. it isn't snake oil like alot of the others i have tried i have been running it for a couple months now and i have had a 5 mpg increase in milage and when pulling my 31' toyhauler it doesn't downshift as much and when pulling i get and avg of 14 mpg. and it runs about 20 degrees cooler ( i don't know why it but it does)
i haven't done any mods to it yet it is still bone stock but it has got all the power i need for now and with the additive in the tank it rocks empty i get an avg of 20 - 24 mpg. so give it a whirl it aint gonna hurt i swear
03 gm 2500 bone stock whoramax crew cab long box
definatly not parking lot friendly but niether am I

Hi, I own a 2002 Silverado dually with approximately 483,000 miles on it. I'm currently on my fourth set of injectors. They have about 50,000 miles on them and have started smoking again! I just had a single injector replaced in May of 2008. The white smoke disappeared for about 6 weeks. After continued frustration with the dealer, I took the truck to an independant diesel mechanic. He stated that I have 3 more injectors preparing to go out.Any suggestions, causes or cures that you can recommend would be greatly appreciated.Thanks. Sincerely Paul T.
