hey guys i got an 06 2500 w/ a 5.9 cummins,6 sp manual 4x4 and i want to swap out the 5.9 for 6.7.does any1 know what will need to be done to make the tranny bolt up if any and does the engine harness need to be swaped out as well and what about the brain for the engine its self.also could any1 give a ballpark estimate on what it might cost.i am in iraq till next sep and wont to get it done if the cost aint too much and dont take too long.would also like to know if it is a resonable swap or would it be betr to just trade in and get another 1 with the 6.7

why do want to swap to a 6.7? the 5.9 is awesome especially if you already plan on spending money on the truck for mods.

I'd have to agree. If you're trying to tune for power, you're a lot better off with the 5.9 for now. The extra displacement of the 6.7 may be appealing, but the fact of the matter is, the bigger displacement was more for offsetting the effects of the mandated emissions equipment than necessarily for more power. There's a LOT more aftermarket support for the 5.9, and you can get some pretty insane amounts of power out of it.

Yeah, if you want to hot-rod it at all, the 5.9 is the way to go for now. Keep what you've got!

If you insist on getting the new motor, then i'd suggest buying you a new truck. Anything can be done with swapping motors. But just thinking about what it would take..gives me a headache. I love my 5.9...and I'll keep it until it explodes.

not worth it, 6.7 gets 14 mpg highway. 5.9 gets 20 and has more potential. 6.7 has a ton more sensors i would not wanna even try doing that. bottom line, bad idea.

well iv ask around on some other sites and they all say the same thing,DONT do it.so im gonna stick with my 5.9,but as far as getting 20mpg out of it,im not.i get around 14-16 mpg and thats on open road.im gonna add an 8" lift and 39" tires to it.to even out the mpg and hp loss what could i do to increase them both?also will i have to go in and reset my speedometer to compensate for the over sized tires and if so how would i go about doing that?

buddy nothin against you... but im a powerstroke guy... and i have no problem admiting the the 5.9L cummins is the best motor out there...   i think you are sick in the head if you wanna swap it out...   again nothin against you...    but i just think that you have an amazing set up with what you have... my advice. spend the money that it will take to swap them... and put that money into performance and transmission upgrades. that would be the smartest thing for you to do buddy.   again nothin against you but if it were me i would definetly stay with the 5.9L untill the 6.7L proves its self useful.    good luck with the swap if you do deside to do it.   but again i think it is madness to swap them. lol

oic... sry i dint read the whole forum... im glad that you came to your senses lol...   well to increase mpg... add performance stuff...    air filter, chip/programmer, and exahasut are the biggest three...    but if your gunna add alot of power like more then 150hp it would be best for you to start with clutch and flywheel upgrades.     that is what i would do if i had alot of money.      but yeah... umm    i dont have much more to say.    good luck with everything bud!     hope i see your rig in the next issue of DIESEL POWER!!!

one more thing.     im a powerstroke guy...      i dont know if you know much about the powerstroke...   but my dads 6.4L pulls amazing just stock...   moms 6.0L pulls better though just casue of the chip.    im wondering if you think it would be ok to put a chip in the 6.4L    i told him to do it.   yes it will void the warranty...   but warranty really dont mean much to him.   i told him to do it.     but he still hasent yet.    i dont know...   if he does...  which chip/programmer should i recomned to him???    im think either banks or bully dog.

hey buddy-all these guys that say the 6.7 is nothing yet are wrong-my brother in law has an 08 2500 and gets 20 mpg and its still climbing the more he drives it- he tows a 24 ft covered car trailer and still gets 16 with that-it is amazing-every day more and more companies are comeing out with stuff for them-as for u though i would stay with what i got-the only way i would go to the 6.7 if i were u is to trade up-dont waste the time and money upgrading your truck to a 6.7-thats not worth it-just like the other guys said, just take the money you had for that and mod yours-what ever you do good luck and i also wanna say thank you for what your doin in iraq-just make sure you get home safe to see your truck again-good luck buddy

no everything about the truck is completely stock. right now on a tank he gets roughly 600 miles on puts 32 gals. back in it to fill it. which is about 19-20 mpg. so maybe its rare but he got lucky then i guess. i dont know anyone else with a 6.7 to see if theres is the same.

well sometime when your at the gas station fillin up...    maybe a 6.7L will pull up beside you.   ask him if he likes it.      i did just tonight and he said yes i love it!!!    except for the millage...   and i was in my dads 08 powerstroke.        i asked what do u get...    he (not knowing me one bit) said here get in and see...      i looked and it said 12.4    he said he had just came from interstate on cruise at 80.     with no trailer at all ever.     i said well that gets 14 at 80 on interstate (looking at my dads pickup) and its got 4.10 gears. he said really.  i said yeah. he said have anything done to it?   i said no. all that aint stock on it is the exterior features.   he said really well that aint bad.     one of the nicest guys i have ever met.    he said he loves his cummins but just wishes the millage was better.      my uncle has one to...   and it gets 6.3 mpg under a 230000 lb trailer...  that is absolutly horrible!!!!!!!!!       dads pickup has seen as low as 4.9 mpg under a 20000 lb grand juntion 37ft camper...      but that is into a 45 mph wind goin 75 on interstate.      that is horible but it pulled it fine...    but the millage really knew it was there.   im not sayin the millage on dads pickup is all that great either.     but lets face it  neither of the new pickup will get much over 15 on a good day.        i still cant belive the 20 mpg 6.7L    but im sure its true!

dude i'd kill for 6.3mph under a 230,000 lb trailer!! lol

keep the 5.9l lol spend the money on fuel and maybe a programmer. no use in wasting money on the exhaust unless you straight pipe it. intake will help a little.
i want a cummins...

or a 06 GTO...

or a 06 GTO with a cummins TXcharger07
