I have a very similar 1.9 Jetta (called a Bora over here), and am looking into starting a similar upgrading process, however I am completely new to this. Does anyone have any information on the initial spec of Tom Calvert's Jetta? Was it the 130bhp version, or one of the lesser models? Anyone have any suggestions on a starting point? I am bringing it in to get chipped next week, and it's an open road from there! Anyone else done wonders with a small starting block?

Putting bigger exhaust and a intake on diesel trucks works so I'm sure it'll work for you. Diesel power mag did a whole story on the power you could get out of a jetta in last months or the month before it could help you out. or just seach the internet I bet there is alot of horsepower in that little motor and just smoke the hell out of those little rice rockets

I believe the only version ever sold in the U.S. was the 90-hp and later the 100-hp TDI. I think he did pretty extensive internal modifications including new pistons, rods and some headwork. The power levels he's getting out of it are pretty eye-popping, so I don't think you could realistically expect getting those kind of power levels out of it with just a programmer and some bolt-ons.

what kind of chip?

what tranny do you have?

if it is a manual you'll need to get a fuel pump off of a auto VW the manuals come with a 10mm pump vs. the 11mm pump for the auto

the tranny will need upgrading so if it's a manual a new clutch from southbend should do

if it's an auto I'm sure ATS or Suncoast can do it just call them to check

as for injectors, turbos, and a chip look here

they also sell intakes,SB clutches, boost foolers, and gauges
and if you got some miles change out your timing belt
remember you NEED GAUGES

and have fun
