Guys I'm finally ready to put the stacks on my truck and ready to turn it into a Smoker! Just wanted to check up on some things before i do it! Making it smoke is caused by turning up the fuel correct? If so isn't that alot harder on the pistons and engine block?

yes it is but it can take it they have some powerstrokers pushing 1700* EGTs thats well over 1300* limit on the 7.3

some others RAM guys will chim in on this but a pyro is a must once you turn the fuel up

As a rule of thumb the first mod to your truck should be a set of gauges like boost, pyro, and a optional trans temp or fuel pressure.

You shouldnt have any problem turning the fuel up some, just dont over do it and once you get that pyrometer installed you can actually see what happens when you turn the fuel up.

Its an exhuast gas temp guage you would install to keep temps on your turbo and I would recommand an aftermarket intake and bigger exhuast you can find them at geno garage.com  Is where I bought mine or find another brand you prefer.

theres several ways, one involves knowing and understanding the p-pump (fuel pump) and the other easier way is to get a set of injectors from a place like BD power or bullydog.com, and yet another is to change out the fuel plates, the max egt ive heard on street trucks has been around 1600 MAX, most run between 1100-1400 at least the locals, also better plan to upgrade your trans, whether manual or auto, especially with the auto as the 518(or 46RE)auto could barely handle the stock power.  also id look into an aftermarket air intake system, ive got K&n, love it, friend of mine runs AFE, either kit will help lower your EGTs meaning you can go far on the fueling.  hope this helps some if not check out last months issue(ithink) where they upgrade a 97, same thing could work for you.

Move or replace the fuel plate on the pump and invest in a set of performance injectors and that truck will smoke more than you can imagine! Just be certain to get an EGT gauge and WATCH IT whenever you stand on the skinny pedal. The p-pump can move more fuel than the engine can ever hope to burn and the EGT's can skyrocket in a big hurry. I'd tinker with the plate first, as to slide the stocker is free and a performance plate is only about $150.00 bucks. If that doesn't make enough smoke for ya, a set of injectors will make you smile but they'll set you back $1000.00 or more. Have fun!

Hi, Im new to the diesel power community.I have a 2006 Cummins Megacab 1 ton with stg 2 afe intake and 5inch straight exhaust, i'm also running a quadzilla 140hp chip. It smokes a little of the take off, but i'm looking for HUGE amounts of black smoke. What is the cheapest/safest way to acheive this?

Maybe this chip if I'm right it should add fuel not timing

to much timing and and you can pop a hole in a piston

also the TS Performance Power Play MP-8 module

or the TST PowerMax CR

I know all that black smoke is cool I love smoking somebody out but really its just unburnt fuel wasted hp. but if you wont a lot of smoke go with injectors and put a duel feed line kit in that cp3 pump to heep up with the new injectors and cut rail pressure down
