everyday i wake up and say "fuck i should have got a suncoast". When mine broke. it wasnt " oh were sorry about that, it likely broke because there was too much power, the billet input shaft would have been a better choice". no it was "it broke because you have too much power for the stock shaft, this is your fault". ya and dont buy the 5 star TC. mine slips like nothing ive ever seen. yes ATS guy i checked the pressures there all fine, and yes i have the billet flexplate. but i wind the engine to 2500, wait for the tranny to catch up, tranny shifts, engine DOES NOT lug down at all, wait for tranny to catch up, shifts again, then finally locks up and the truck takes me for a ride but all in all. very dissapointing considering the $1500 i spent for that thing.
1996 Ram 2500 reg. cab longbox, #6 plate, 191 Deliver valves, 60 hp injectors, star wheel turned up a lot, AFE Stage 2 intake into a Phat Shaft 62 wastgate set at 40 psi, 4" straight pipe, Auto Meter Gauges, ATS tranny and TC (unfortunately), Dick Cepek FC-II A/T 265 LR16 (good tires). FS-2500 Bypass Filter. The only hands that work on my truck are my own.

The more I research, the more bad I find about ATS transmissions. It's unbelievable these guys are still in business. I bought a tranny from them for my 03 Ford, had nothing but trouble, biggest piece of crap I have ever wasted over $5000 on. When I put the truck in gear, it would hestiate for 45 seconds, then a big clunk and it would shift into drive or reverse. Then other times I would be driving and it would just die. Tried to get ATS to make it right, nothing, they won't stand behind their warranty AT ALL. I crippled along till I had just over 23000 miles on it, then it was junk, I couldn't take it anymore. ATS brags how great they are, they are full of horse manure.

I feel sorry for you Bryan, you may want to go find a job somewhere else. Yes, there are always at least two sides to every story, and yours, coming from ATS is wrong. It doesn't matter if the customer had called ATS on the day the part arrived broke, with pictures and the UPS driver as the witness, you guys wouldn't care, and wouldn't cover it. Insurance my ass. Get real. Maybe you people should get off the internet and stop trying to justify your junk, and go build something that actually works.

I have to give ATS a little credit. My trans was slipping gears and doing the double bump reverse thing. When I took it to the ATS certified shop they found out it was about six months out of warranty. The shop called and talked to ATS and they agreet to fix the trans free of labor and parts for ATS's end but I had to pay for shipping and the Shops labor for the extraction and installation of the trans.
No problem, for being out of warranty thats a good deal. Trans was sent in, fixed and returned for a cost of about $1440. I was excited. The first one lasted a long time this one will too ....Or will it The nex day it did a little slip while accelerating up an on ramp and now a week later its doing the double bump reverse thing again and slipping while moving in reverse. It continues to get worse. At the first sign of problems I took it back to the shop and gave the mechanic a ride but could only get it to do a very faint double bump reverse problem.
So monday I will take it back to the shop and let them at it. The manager said he will talk to ATS again and lets hope come up with a solution. My truck is not some fully upgraded power house (only a programmer, intercooler, 4", High Ram) and ran for years on the first ATS trans with no problems. I just gotta wonder why all the problems now?
Cross your fingers that ATS will stand behind their product after they said this trans had no warranty this time.
Never enough...

I have an ATS transmission with 5-star TC and co-pilot. It was installed by Woodruff Diesel in Ohio. I haven't had any problems with mine, but I'm only running an '03 7.3L w/Airaid intake, 4" turbo back exhaust and XTC programmer set on tow. Not exactly high powered. I have heard that ATS is difficult to deal with from other people. I hope I never have to find out. SO far the transmission has been as good as advertised. I have about 45,000 miles on it. I'm close to adding Dynomite Diesel Stage 2 injectors and either a Hypertech or Garret BB turbo, so my power should increase a good bit.

I've never heard anything but bad about ATS when it comes to honoring their warranty.
Sad, because they seem to have lots of nice, innovative products....

I was out last week and started talking to a guy wearing an ATS shirt, the same shirt I saw on Storm chasers. I was thinking about changing the tranny in my 06 Dodge, so I asked him if he knew anything about ATS. He then launched into a 30 minute horror story about the problems he had with his transmission. Problems with converter unlocking problems that killled the truck every time he came to a stop. He had trouble with the transmission shifting extremely hard as he called it, "Bone shaking" as well as trouble code issues, and the tranny dropping into fail-safe mode. As well as some odd-ball valve body problems.
He didn't have much good to say about customer service from Clint Cannon (the owner) or any of his yes men, underlings. He did say they put over 140 miles on his truck while "Diagnosing" the issues over the course of 5 weeks! Seriously who can be without their work truck for that long? He had a warranty that was 15 pages and filled with more loopholes than a stock yard full or roping hands! He said it was a 30/30 warranty - 30 feet or 30 seconds whichever came first!
After speaking with him for 30 minutes I went home an spent some time online, googling ATS, and it seems there are more unsatisfied ATS customers than there are satisfied ones. After reading those bad experience stories I have come to the conclusion that this company must be on the brink of bankruptsy; no company can continually provide such poor customer service, and inferior product performance and survive. I don't feel comfortable purchasing a product from a company that I feel, is bound for the junk yard.
I decided to look past purple tranny and over-blown ads extolling the joys of ATS Diesel (even though the ads are the color of a twinkie and look like they are trying to sell you a truck.). As for my new friend he found no joy in a purple, overpriced tranny and he's happilly running an orange suncoast tranny, mine is on the way.

Good post! I don't think there should be any tolerance for poor customer service.

I heard they hired some ad agency who have driven their business right down into the ground with their crappy marketing ideas. Someone should tell them "If it aint broke, don't fix it". I guess the agency is doing them a favor really, I mean they were going to go down eventually. No-one can stay afloat with that terrible combination of bad product and even worse customer service. When I look through the magazines now I can't even find them, they have changed their ads so much they don't even look like ATS anymore. But that's ok because I don't need them. My new Suncoast tranny is here, installed and working like a charm!

This is amazing. I have never heard of so many bad experiences with a single company. If cost wasn't a big enough issue for me to avoid their products, this thread sure is.
