Hi Guys, I did a little research, and at least in CA, state taxes are the same with unleaded and diesel, but federal taxes are 18 cents per gallon for unleaded and 24 cents per gallon for diesel. So it looks like it's more of a federal issue than a state one. I say we get the ball rolling on getting the diesel tax rolled back, since I believe ULSD now has a lower sulfur content than unleaded! If that's not a "clean" fuel, I don't know what is! Here's a few sources to help get the ball rolling:

U.S. EPA Contact List (PDF)

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi

Fuel Prices Issues Page

House Committee on Energy & Commerce

House/Senate Joint Committee on Taxation

I know there are a lot of Canadians on here. If you're fed up with high diesel prices up there, I encourage you to take similar action!

Okay, well you morons can go on paying out the @$$ for your fuel, and not give a flying rat's @$$. But if you want to make a difference, you need to get off your @$$es and do something about it.

But you see, diesel fuels got electrolytes, they're what engines crave!

will diesel engines run on Brawndo? Perhaps this would be cheaper and more efficient than diesel fuel, and perhaps  provide even more electrolytes than diesel fuel, which would be hella tight.

Maybe we can make diesel from garbage, so we won't have any more garbage avalanches.

Yeah, it's about time that diesel quits getting a bad rap for being a "dirty" fuel. It's insane what the price at the pump is now!

wow no love lost between dp and sanchez eh? and yeah it makes me pretty mad that the people in powerdon't know the facts, i know my congressman personally and am trying to talk him into getting more congressman on board with diesel tech, and showing him that it really is a relativley clean, easy to produce fuel that shouldn't have as bad a rap as it gets.

If diesel is such a "dirty" or "polluting" fuel why do they use in underground mining?!!!!  They dont need to clean diesel they need to focus on cleaning gas.

There are some developing technologies out there to do what you're talking about. BTL (Biomass to liquid) and cellulosic ethanol processes being developed by companies like Coskata. I will try and find some links and post them in the forum.

If DP Web Editor is a title or job and not just another screen name, I would have to say that the inputs on this post were unprofessional, uncalled for, rude, and riddled with grammatical errors. I would expect that input from another opinionated knuckle dragger like myself, but the web editor SHOULD be a little more professional and set an non-aggressive example.

If DP Web Editor is just a cool screen name, take some Midol!!

Karl. Actually, it was a little insider humor quoting from the movie "Idiocracy." Sorry if we offended or ticked off anyone.

Hey guys, just a reminder there is a web site you can go that will help get our government to stop the energy speculators from trading behind closed doors and doing things so shady. closetheenronloophole.com. Please check it out.
