What is the best chip I should get for my 7.3 powerstroke that will give it more HP along with about 5 more mpg or better? I have a 96' F250 and a 03' F250.

Unlike murmanpsd7.3 I am not a fan of the Superchips tuner. I have a Flashpaq for my '00 7.3 and it doesn't overly impress me. Also the fact that there will not be any additional files (the extreme or redline tune that I was lead to believe would be coming out for the 7.3 is not going to) available for the tuner is a disappointment. There was also an issue with downloading and Vista. I would think they have that fixed by now, but I haven't bothered to check for any updates in a while. Also the advanced data acquisition never did end up working for me. I guess I was expecting something 'more' when I purchased it about a year ago. Don't get me wrong, the tuner itself works just fine, but if I had to do it over again, I would look at something different.

Superchips and Hypertech both are tuned somewhat conservatively. They're designed to be plug & play, not for racers or serious tuners. They're good if you want a modest increase in power, but if you're really going all-out, you probably want a more comprehensive solution that includes intake, exhaust, fuel management, etc.

Go with a DP Tuner and never look back.  They can program for whatever you want.  You only want a conservative tune?  They'll set you up with one.  You want the most power you can get out of it?  They'll set you up.  A programmer for the 7.3's are nothing compared to a chip you put right on the PCM.  Stay away from your cookie cutter programmers (banks, superchips, bully dog, etc) They haven't updated tunes in years...

Welcome Rman,

A friend of mine uses the Tony Wildman (TW) Powerstroke diesel programmer. TW chips are available from Single to 6 positions and can range from $300 (1 position) to $475 (6 positions).

The TS Performance is supposed to be a good one too.  The TS is a 6 Position Switchable Chip for the 7.3 Ford Powerstroke.  TS prices range from $287.55 to about $300.

See what you think.  Good luck on finding the right tuner/chip.

Hope this information is helpful.

TW Programmer
These programs are custom built specifically to your truck and modifications.
• Economy is designed to increase your fuel mileage.
• Daily is a slightly more powerful version of the economy program that adjusts shift points for driving around town.
• Tow is going to be approximately 50hp increase for the 94-97 models and 65ish for 99-03 models.
• Heavy tow will have shift points adjusted and an increase in power over the regular tow program.
• Street Race is for those pesky imports with the coffee can exhausts.Extreme is for the track.
• Sled pull will have shift parameters adjusted to allow the truck to be in drive and not shift out of 2nd gear.
• Hi Idle is for the cold days to keep the truck warm and the hot days to keep the truck cool.

TS Performance
• 6 Switchable on the fly tunes
• Must message us with year AND whether 7.3 is auto or manual
• Settings come as 1)Stock 2) High Idle 3)50hp 4)75hp 5)100hp 6)140hp

Comments I’ve read about TS:
• Impressed with the product and performance.
• Recommend a TS chip to anyone to use.
• Lots of power with pulling loads.
• Usually get between 19-20 mpg pulling a horse trailer empty.
• The 140 tune shifts hard.
• Great chip, monster power increase.
• Better shifting with the other tunes.
• Some smoke with 140 tune.

Towin' machine...  Joel
