I was looking at past magazines and found a article about a cummins 4bt into a bronco. I was sleeping and when i woke up it thought about putting a Cummins 4BT in to a fox body mustang.Think about 400 horsepower and 800 pound feet of torque in a mustang blowin black smoke. My question is would it fit and what transmission would you have to put behind it if you wanted a manual.

HI WOODY, YOU KNOW IT'S GOING TO COST ALOT OF MONEY, and SLEEP-LESS NIGHT!!! YOUR GOING TO HAVE TO MAKE THE FRONT-END STRONGER, WITH THAT MUCH TORQUE, IT MIGHT TWIST THE BODY, YOU WILL NEED A FORD C6 TRANNY AUTO. NOT SURE WHICH MANUEL???

It might be tricky to do, but that would be so freakin' cool!

another question i have is, the 4bt bascially a 12 valve with 2 cylinders cut off. If so would you be able to use 12 valve injection pump and injectors. what is the maxmium boost pressure a 4bt will hold. I would really like it to be my daily driver and anything over 20 mpg is great so i won't really worry about the fuel mileage that much.

Long story short, it could be done but would probably take about 10-20K to do. Sweet part is that the thing would get 30-40mpg and could have anywhere from 300-600 horsepower depending on how much you wanted to throw at the motor and whether you wanted to run nitrous or not. The 4bt comes with either a rotary pump (VE) or a p-pump, both can be made to make power, but it's a lot easier with the p-pump.

ya get the p-pump if possible. it can probably hold as much boost as any of the other diesels, 45 psi max more than that and the head bolts stretch and blow out the head gasket. i hope you have lots of good mechanic friends because that is gonna be one heck of a swap to pull off. if you do though i would almost put money down that you would be on the cover of DP.

Thanks for the imformation. I would really love to do this.I would also like to run this thing at the track. Twin turbos would be nice but for reugular driving i would turn the boost down then for track would turn it up a little. Another question is what type of adapter plates for tranmissions do they make for this engine. Would prefer a manual but I will settle for a automatic

Lets put a couple things straight:
1. You will not get 800 ft-lbs from a 4BT with any sort of reliability. That is the same as getting 1200 ft-lbs from a 6BT. Okay for a race vehicle, but not a daily driver. 400 ft-lbs is pushing it, but within reason, and the same as in the Bronco.
2. Even 400 ft-lbs is going to turn the FOX chassis into a broken potato chip.
3. Transmission: ZF 5speed or 6speed from a Ford Diesel pickup with adaptor from http://www.fordcummins.com/
4. A 4BT wieghs about the same as Chrysler 426 Hemi or Ford 460.
Good luck.

Yeah, Cummins are heavy lumps. Not saying it couldn't be done, but it would definitely be a trade-off, in terms of weight.

im not an expert in Cummins 4BT or fox body mustangs but people put 460's in fox bodys and drag race them. i bet i could reinforce the frame and 400 foot pounds of torque is alot for a mustang but a lot of people have gone past that in a fox body and that don't rip apart. im just thinking of the streetabilty of it. 25 MPG and plenty of torque to go down the street i don't have the specs on how tall 4BTs are and how big the engine compartment on the mustang but i could probably put a tall deck hood just like the drag racers do. it may not be super super fast but it would be cool
