We can only hope that GM builds a truck that will go with the "mind blowing Duramax".

My wish is they ditch the torsion-bar front suspension.

YOU KNOW WITH ALL THE BASHING THAT GOES ON ABOUT THE IFS,YOUD THINK THAT GM WOULD PULL THERE HEADS OUTA THEIR ASSSES AND PUT THE SOLID BACK UNDER IT AND I THINK THAT THEIR PROFITS OR THEIR SALES WOULD INCREASE.AND ALSO WHEN THEY DID HAVE SOLIDS THEY RAN THE FRT SPRINGS W/ A SLIGHT REVERSE ARCH FOR A LITTL SOFTER OF A RIDE.I HAD AN 86 SUB AND NOT ONCE DID I COMPLAIN ABOUT THE WAY IT RODE. I EVEN PUT A 6" LIFT UNDER IT AND I THINK IT RODE BETTER.

In some ways, it almost seems as if GM isn't really that serious about going after the heavy-duty pickup customers. Maybe that's what they figure the Kodiak & Top Kick conversions are for. (shrug)

GM has really nice interiors, and the Dmax (love it or hate it) is smooth & strong. But even the hard-core GM guys say the front suspension blows on the 3/4 and 1-tons.

YEAH, HOW CAN YOU HAVE A 1TON THAT HAS GROUND CLEARENCE OF A HONDA AND CALL IT A TRUCK? I UNDERSTAND THAT ITS MORE COMFORTABLE THAN DOG AND FROG BUT COME ON IF YOU WANT A 3/4-1 TON YOU DONT WANT TO WORRY ABOUT THE FRT SUSP.BREAKING UNDER EXTREME LOADS THAT FROG AND DOG CAN HANDLE...YOU KNOW I WAS BORN AND BRED ON CHEVY/GMC TRUCKS AND MY 93 K1500 I HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THE FRT SUSP PIECES ON IT NOW AND NEVER HAD THAT PROBLEM W/MY 86 SUB...AND ANOTHER THING WHEN TAKING IT OFF ROAD THE DAMN THING LIKES TO SEE IF IT CAN TOUCH THE GROUND WITH ITS BELLY. COME ON NOW I KNOW FORD AND DODGE DONT BOTTOM OUT AS BAD AS GM DOES!

LOL, keith! That's so true! I've seen it myself! The torsion-bar Chevys are pratically worthless off-road. 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. I don't know why GM doesn't go back to a straight axle on the 2500s and 3500s. I guess it figures there is more of a market for the recreational guys that like the smooth ride rather than the more serious users that look for durability and strength.

yeah, i think they'd gain alot of respect back(at least in my mind) if they did go to the solid axle fron susp. or at least offered a model that has it... with that i would be more inclined to look into their trucks.

i really don't understand why chevy dosn't go back to the solid front on its hd trucks, if its worried about ride quality why not use existing technology to make a really cool suspension, like how bout a 4 link coilover suspension with a really good coilover to give a good ride, i like my dogde's suspension for its strenth but it is kinda rough unloaded on choppy asphalt, if only the manufactures could build the best compromise between strenth and ride quailty with a solid axle, i don't like the fords radus arm design either.

My dream truck:78 chevrolet K30 crew cab longbed, srw with d60, 14 bolt, nv4500, np205 and a 600 series cummins 5.9 rolling on 37 inc tires!!! A solid axle chevy with a cummins, it just dosn't get better then this.
My real truck:  2004.5 Dogde Ram 3500 crew cab longbed 4x4, 5.9 cummins of course!  All stock sadly
Blowin smoke of course!!

i think it all boils down to money, if they have something that works for them and their cutomers they don't feel the need to invest millions of dollars in redesigning a new front suspension and steering workup..

Well, I can't fault GM for putting its money where it gets all the glory...horsepower. Let's face it, a lot of guys just look at that and say, "GM trucks are the best 'cause they're fast!" (We all know who I'm talking about).

Like I've said before, the GM 3/4 & 1-tons are good for what they are: recreational toy-hauler trucks. If you're actually going to use your truck for working, Dodge or Ford, no question.

I mean shoot, if you look at ambulances, tow trucks, flat-beds, etc, what are the majority? Fords & Dodges.

If I were GM, I might keep the 2500 IFS, but give the 3500 (dually or single-rear) a solid front axle. That would separate the men from the boys (so to speak) and give guys that like the power of the Duramax and the durability of the Allison a real option for a work truck. Just my $0.02 worth.
