there were actually 3 different diesels offered in 94; 7.3 idi(indirect injection)non turbo, 7.3 idi turbo, and also the 7.3 DIT(direct injection) powerstroke you just have to peak under the hood to know because they were badged the same but a powerstroke does not have high pressure fuel lines like the IDI's. also on a powerstroke you cannot see the injectors or glow plugs because they are hidden under the valve covers which on the passenger side valve cover it should have a sticker on it that will say if it is a IDI or DIT(powerstroke). i have a 94 f250 with a powertrke it is just a striped down 2wd 5spd truck, when i first got it it had a 4.11 rear end and got 13mpg but i straight piped it and a large conical filter and swaped the rear end from an old gasser with a 3.55 rear end and on the highway i get 24mpg's now. i hope to eventually put a 3' down pipe, put an economy tune on it and a 3.08 rear gear and flirt with 30mpg's.

sorry, if it is a IDI it does not have a computer but if it is a powerstroke it does and yes you can get a programer or do a 18k resistor mod wich is what i did (all that is, is a resistor on the oil pressure sensor to make run higher oil pressure to the HUEI injectors). but you can also turn up the IP screw in the pump on an old IDI.

couldn't tell ya, all i can say is drive it around and to see if it feels like a good solid clutch. if it is an automatic i would pull the dipstick out and make sure that the ATF doesn't smell burnt

There not all badged the same. The IDI turbo has "Turbo Diesel" badges and the DI's have "PowerStroke" also I have never seen a '94 non-turbo. They started putting turbos on them in late '93. I had a early '93 non turbo reg cab that I put a ATS kit on, but it had to go when the first kid came, so I traded it for a '94 idi Turbo Diesel ext cab, great truck!

well my 94 powerstroke was just badged as "turbo diesel" and on the engine cover it just said "direct injection turbo" theres not powerstroke writen anywere on the truck and as far as the 94 non turbo i cant say for 100% but i said that because when i was checking the kelly blue book value i had to choose between those three (IDI turbo, non-turbo, and powerstroke)diferent diesel options for that year. which by the way VWdiesel how is that truck?

well the dually we went to look at was bad, the trany fluid smelt burnt we took it for a drive and it shifted real bad and it had about 250k on it, some1 drove it after us and it broke down on them.. but we looked at a lot of other diesels and drove them, we ended up getting a 93 ext cab F250 with 7.3 idi turbo diesel its a real nice truck in real good condition 116k on it and it doesnt hardly smoke, we drove it back from TX to KS and got 12mpg and on the 2nd fill up we took the air filter off cuz it was real real real dirty and got 15mpg going 65mph the whole way with the 5spd and 4.10 gears

awesome, those old IDI's are the toughest diesels ford ever put in a truck we have an 85 6.9 and with the exception of eating glow plugs it has been solid as a rock. planing on any mods? at least turn the pump up? also for great tech questions you can also check out superdutydiesel.com

i'm gonna make a homemade ram air intake, straight pipe it with an old five inch stack from my dads semi and probly new gears in the rear end. it has dual tanks so were going to wrap one w/ heater hose and use it for veggie oil. is 93 the year that the turbo was very restricted??

You must have an early PowerStroke. Back in '94 my neighbour ordered a PS before they were on the showroom floor, and when it arrived it was badged PowerStroke. Maybe the Canadian trucks were different. To answer VWdiesel ? the turbos are fine it's the down pipe that's restrictive. Actually to say it's restrictive is like saying the Atlantic Ocean is moist! I don't think you could get it more restrictive. Is your '93 a factory turbo or aftermarket ? A factory one will have Ford written on the intake. Do a search for idi upgrades on this site and you'll learn how to add a 100HP and increase your mpg. Your going to love the sound that truck will have straight piped!!!
