I was thinking about buying a 96 f150. currently it has a 302 gas and a 5sp manual. i wanted to take a 4bt cummins and swap out the 302 for something that gets better gas mileage. how difficult would this swap be and what is involved in doing it? i have access to all the tools, shop space, and am on a tight budget.
thanks

sounds like a great project. the only thing i see is finding a 4bt for a good price they are starting to get popular for swaps. and the few i have seen are pricy. but if you happen to find an old frito lay truck cheep go for it and keep us posted with pic's & updates

I did a 85 GMC 1/2 ton. It is working great so far. I get about 20 to 25 MPG around town.

why has it taken manufacturers SOOOOO f-ing long to figure out that they should put a small diesel in the half ton trucks 20-25 mpg THATS GREAT i bet you can pull a 11000# trailer with ease AND STILL GET ABOUT 15-18 MPGS You people have some brains unlike those at the major automakers and i bet those trucks make great daily drivers
