Recently I saw some interesting pictures on the internet regarding this whole fiasco with Caterpillar and Toyota. When Toyota made it debut for the new Tundra it was pulling a Caterpillar front end loader. Then Bill Davis signed Caterpillar as the primary sponsor for the #22 Caterpillar Toyota Camry. In my opinion, I think Toyota and Cat have teamed up and the deal is final, Toyota is just waiting on the final approval of the new HD Double Cab before they stuff the big Cat into it. I'm guessing (now this is just a guess) Toyota will use the new 07 Cat C7 for the new Toyota HD's. This engine packs the power too, 300HP, 850 lb-ft of torque at 1440rpm. Any Ideas on this cause I'm really interested.

Last reported on left lane news.com toyota was going to cancel further development of a super or heavy duty pick up (3/4 ton or larger). It would be great but until it actually happens don't get too excited. Besides ford needs a diesel engine more than toyota as they are going to drop navistar engines (rumor).

Here is some food for thought...
Toyota has never purchased and engine from another company. Everybody that builds engines for Toyota is at least partially owned by Toyota. Toyota recently acquired a share of a large diesel engine manufacturer. Now IF they ever revive the HD Program... I would say it is a safe bet that a CAT is not going in it....
Just something to think about...
As soon as they offer a Ranger with a Diesel in America, I'll be the idiot camping out in front of the Ford Dealer!

I was under the asumption that Toyota owns its own medium/heavy duty trucks by the name of Hino that have Toyota diesel engines in them. So if they are going to use a diesel it will problaby be a Hino. In regards to Ford dropping the powerstroke I would think they would use The Cat C7 because it is already in the F-650.

Iv said it before and Ill say it again we will never see a Cat in a 3/4 or 1 ton Ford. After they get away from the harvester of sorrow they are going to build there own diesel

Toyota can handle their own engine building capabilities, and they probably have more tricks up their sleeves when it comes to making a smooth, powerful and emissions friendly diesel than Caterpillar could ever do. If Toyota brings a diesel here, it will be a killer and set the benchmarks higher than what we currently produce. And that pisses me off more than anything, because we can do it.

No 3/4 Ton or 1 ton pick up can handle a C7. It cranks out way too much Torque it would turn the frame into a rubber bands. Besides it'll be a cold day in hell before CAT makes a light duty engine.

cat or should i say acert makes a 6.6 engine its an I6 (ofcourse) and i think it said 185 hp and 450 in tq at the flywheel, perfect for a pickup but not enough power. as for cat in a toy yeah wont happen since they own hino.
1997 f-250 7.3 powerstroke. just another old truck making big power hahaha my lug nuts need more torque then what your honda makes

I've heard the 2010 Duramax is going to blow everyone's socks off. I don't have any hard numbers, but I would guess 400 hp and 700 lb./ft. from the factory might not be too far-fetched. The limiting factor isn't the engines anymore, it's the transmissions & drivetrains' ability to cope with the power.
Even so, until GM offers a solid front axle option on the 3/4 and 1-ton models, it's not going to be taken that seriously by the heavy-hauler guys.

DZL1 I agree that US manufactures(American Brains)should be puting out the best world wide and be the biggest exporter of veh but I think We got soft, to many want to make a quick buck not durability.ESANCHEZ by 2010 I think We will all see big surprises from manufactures not mentioned.

I want to add LOOK out for Mercedes, They bought out Detroit becaouse they want the market of diesels in the US.You can see a peek of this in the over the road trucks and they seem to be doing it quietly.

That was just an adapted medium-duty engine. My guess is if Toyota does make a Tundra diesel, it will be based on the 4.5 diesel V8 it has in overseas markets, or a larger-displacement V8 for refinement. I would be very surprised if Toyota ended up offering a straight-six diesel in a production Tundra.
