I have a 2003 LB7 and just bought a full 409 Stainless Silverline exhaust and it came with the downpipe with no cat.  I know that it is illegal to run without a cat...however, has anyone ever been caught or do you know of anyone that has been caught? I was considering making a "fake" for now like I did with my 96 5.7l Sierra just for looks, but I heard that you really only get caught if you are creating a ruckus and get caught or if you go to inpection or emissions and dont have it.  Should I run the new pipe and just forget about it?

well 03 it`s fine unless they tailpipe test in your town.if they tailpipe test you can get a hi flow cat but that can cost big bucks.but unless they tailpipe test you`ll be fine without it.  

Yeah, my town definatly does not have the tailpipe test.  My 96 GMC Sierra has true duals with no cats and 2-1/2" pipes and I told the police that it didnt come with cats and they let me off. Im just talking in general has anyone really been caught doing it while under normal driving circumstances or not.

yeah it just depends on how picky the cops are.  

some cops will bust ya on it and ticket you but others may like it and say it sounds great.  

As long as you're not in a state that does smog testing, you're probably OK. Even out here in CA, they don't test diesels trucks, but there's legislation on the dockets to start implementing smog testing. I think it's federal law not to tamper with your emissions system, but it's rarely enforced.  

We do smog testing, and I have no problem with switching the cat back in come emissions time, but I just dont want to get pulled over and have the cop write me a ticket for something that stupid.  I have several friends that run their 6.0 Fords and New cummins with out cats with no fear, so I guess I shouldnt worry.  I guess I could put a short glass pack where the cat would go and tell the cop it is a "high flow cat" as if he would know anyway.

he might know cuase you dont know what he does in his spare time, or if hes into diesel trucks too.  

don`t do a glasspack if you go that route just gut your cat.  

Around here we have zero emmissions testing but lately the cops have been cracking down on diesels in particular. The other night my friend got pulled over for a noise ordinance violation (his Cummins is straight piped) and last night I got a $60 ticket for not having a muffler. The cop also mentioned that seeing that i dont have a cat that he could give me a ticket for that too. In thirty days i have to get my truck inspected by a state inspector to make sure that i put a cat and muffler on my truck. So this morning at work i fabbed up a straight threw cat and using my stocker and then using my MBRP muffler i gutted that too and fabbed a straight thru with that too. This cop was as dumb as a box of rocks too... I blew a little cloud of smoke and he asked me if it was chipped (i had my Edge on, it sits on the steering colum, and my Bully Dogg was sittin on the floor turned on) and i said no and he believed me. What an idiot.
