Haven't heard anything negative about the new 6.7s. All the new diesels have a lot of emissions stuff on them, but that's unavoidable now. You're going to have that with all of them.

I have a 2008 4x4 2500 series Dodge Ram Diesel with 13000 miles that I would love to get rid of.  It has been in the shop a total of six times for emmissions related issues.  Now I am having a Turbo and fuel pressure issue. I suggest you wait until 2010 before you buy a Dodge Diesel. What really sucks is that I traded in a 2002 4x4 3500 that I wasn't having any problems with I just wanted another truck and got a piece of crap.

I have had a couple.  Check engine light comming on and then going off.  Problem fixed.  No power and drinking the fuel.  I took it to the dealer, dealer cleaned the turbo and exhaust also reflashed ECM.   I now get 17mpg   in town 15mpg pulling trailer.  I just want to get rid of DPF and improve MPG and Performance.

i own a 2008 dodge diesel 3500 4x2. I have 9000 miles on this truck and have had it in the shop 4 times. twice for a clogged particulate matter filter and twice for a clogged turbo booster. i was told this was because of extended idle time. although the computer reports 14% idle time. I am ready to check the lemon law in Ark

I would not reccommend that anyone buy the 6.7 Dodge diesel pick up, to many problems with smog/particulate filter, keeps clogging up. My 2008 dodge 3500 has been cleaned 3 times & replaced 4 times. Truck has been in the dealeership 7 times for this problem. if anyone know of a good fix for this problem please let me know.My email is almonsm10@yahoo.com
Thanks

If you don't yet have wide availability of ULSD in your area, then I wouldn't get an '08 or '09 diesel of any kind. The old 500 ppm diesel is poison to the new DPFs. ULSD is 15 ppm, and that's what these engines were designed to run on. ULSD isn't going to be mandated coast-to-coast 'til 2010. There are still some holdouts that are still selling 500 ppm diesel.

I would not suggest buying one. I bought a 2008 3500 quad cab dually. It was brand new The power steering and breaks would go out. Twice I went trough a stop light because I could'nt get it stopped because the breaks would also go! The final time done it. The steering locked up and loosing my breaks in the middle of a curve hitting a tree head on! Turns out the steering system had a blockage in it causing the cap to blow the resevoir, i blew the side on a return line, blew countless seals, and broke several gears in the steering system also. i called chrysler three times about a buy back or reimbursment. they said " it didn't qualify as a lemon". BULL S! Now i'm making payments on a truck that i can't nor do I want to drive because it's tied up in a legal battle. I had problems with the turbo, the emmisions, steering box, the front axel and u-joints, loss of power, and poor fuel milage. I'm sorry to sound so negitive but I have been screwed over severly and I don't want anyone else to end up in my situation.

I have same truck 08 2500 SLT quad cab diesel 4x4. just rolled over 700 miles and my check engine light came on again. first time at 540 mls for about 3 days then went off. Now back on. mileage has decreased progressively since I drove off the lot. Its great when pulling my toy hauler but how many problems can I look forward too?

This is a fruquent problem on the 08 dodges. The biggest reason for the emmisions and computer problems has predominately been bad fuel. As suggested above the ultra low sulfur diesel is a must in the 08 because of how the dpf works. Idle time with bad fuel is only going to compound the clogging and increase the frequency of shop visits for computer errors. The other part has been a poor "regen" program that is in the computer from the factory. This will have the computer intensionally run rich injecting extra fuel with every pulse in order to increase the temp. burn rate at the dpf. By burning more fuel engineers meet emmissions requirements for 2010. Adversly it really hurts the gas mileage of the 08 and if the fuel is not ULSD it never burns hot enough to clean the dpf out. The reprogram at the dealership should help gas mileage. If it does not the dpf is getting clogged and your losing power, mileage, and clean emmisions.

Hope the info is a help.

Thanks a lot for the info.. Tomorrow is the big day. Going to the dealer to get the "big" diagnosis. Check engine light has been on now for 260 miles. Really do not want to have to do this again and again like the thread up above reads.

'08 - 2500 - 4X4 - run ULSD - and have had it to the dealer twice, once for a "carbon clogged" turbo (@7200 miles) which was so bad that they replaced the turbo, 2nd time (8000 miles) the theft system malfunctioned on my wife and alarmed what ever you tried and of course the truck would not even crank (boy was she unhappy) they replaced the sending unit.  Like the truck but sure have a bad feeling about the turbo problems.
