i purchased a 2008 Dodge 3500 diesel, we have had it in the shop numerous times for the emmissions.  They would clean whatever needed to be cleaned, and two weeks ago, it started shuttering really bad, now the dealership is saying bad gas and has rusted the injectors.  This is a work truck it does not sit idle long, how can we go one day everything is fine and the next shuttering, won't start and rust on the injectors.  We were a ford family and decided to try dodge do to the pulling power of the 3500.  don't know if we will purchase another.

yeah Im pretty much fed up with the engine throwing codes left and right Im up to a whopping 1600mls and my check engine light has been on the whole time, minus about 150 mls. Been to the dealer, cleared the codes (didnt actually fix anything). Was told "something is definitely wrong, but I'm not sure what it is" twice. Then was offered right off the bat by the service manager to contact Chrysler to request a return, replacement or whatever else. I don't want to damage the truck but can't keep getting rentals and putting life on hold to go see what might be wrong with the truck. Any suggestion?

yes first of all too many probs with particulate matter warrants is B.S. the fuel filter is a 7 micron when they need a 5 micron now dodge warranty is paid by goverment so any problem with fuel contamination voids warranty we all know the worlds fuels has contaminates

The 6.7L is a great motor if you let it breathe. If you're going to keep it stock, drive it like you stole it and run the exhaust brake all the time, it will help keep the turbo cleaned out. There are lots of options out there to delete the emissions restrictions if that's the way you want to go.

Chev- A few examples of options to delete emissions restrictions? Legal in all states? I live in California, and remember we are trying to save the three-toed tree hugger....!

I have a 2009 3500 6 speed manual and have had no issues.  I currently have 6000 miles on it.  All pulling a steel gooseneck horse trailer.  I have only used ULSD and never idle the engine for more than 5 minutes for warm-up when it is below 40 deg F outside.  I also engage the exhaust brake when idling.  I also do not drive in towns with stop and go traffic much.  If I do have to idle or have been in stop and go traffic, I try to get the RPMs, once on open roads, up to help blow out the exhaust filters.  Right from the dealership I was getting 18 mpg empty highway and 16 towing.  Once the enginge gets a little more broke in that should go up a little.

You guys having problems with soot build up and other cels related to that are killing me!!!! These trucks were ment to be driven hard not crused around in to go get groceries and get your wifes nails done!!! You need to drive it like you stole it or be hauling a heavy triler. The 6.7 is the best engine out there hands down and im a chevy guy!!!!!

I have a 08 2500 6.7.  The truck has been in the shop one time and that was for a new turbo at 20000 miles this was caused by running the low sulpher diesel that is 500 ppm instead of ultra low which is 15ppm. who would have known the diffeance..

The truck now has 77000 miles and has had no more problems I was the original owner and have used the truck for atleast 55000 miles of towing 18000lbs it will out climb and out perform any truck of the same year in the hills with the same weight. that is not chipped

If you use the truck in town choose a day out of the week that you want to get bad fuel economy " and it won't be that bad maybe one mile to gallon depending on length of drive" and use the shifter to change gears and run the truck around 2000 rpm and that will clean out the dpf  because of the high temp also additives that are not designed for the ultra low sulpher diesel will make you go threw a turbo from build up. What looks like it might be good can be vory bad for the new diesels

To increase fuel economy you can also unplug the egr sensor this will raise economy by about 2 mpg on the high way but not affective in town.

Just call the dealership nearest you give them the make model and engine and the code and they will tell you what it means and how to fix it.

Dont know about if they fixed all the issues with the 07 and 08s, but if they have not i wouldnt touch one, I have 17,000 miles on my 08 cummins 3500 and the turbo failed due to the emission filtration crap on the truck, there were 30 trucks with the same issue in front of my truck to be worked on, do research first.

It seems that ALOT of people are having emissions related problems. You could ditch the emissions equipment and put a program on it that keeps it from going into regen, BUT taking off the DPF and anything else emissions related is against federal law. Also it voids your warranty on the whole truck. No more 100,000 mile warranty from Cummins either. I know several people who have done it, and the truck runs like a bat outta he!!. Awesome fuel milage is another benifit to this too.
Take the information here and make an educated decision when buying a new truck. I personally would just buy an 07 or later truck so I could have the 5.9.

My original post on 6-8-09 said that the 08 dodge was a good truck well now I think it is a piece of crap in the last month I have been left along side the road and had the crank shaft position sensor out. I have also had the pleasure of doing 20 mph in a 75mph zone for 30 miles at 1am to have the pleasure of takeing apart my entire exhaust system in the parking lot of a car wash the dpf out the truck now has 82000 miles on it and not worth scrap metal. total cost in the past month and a half repairs $700.00 lost wage $4800.00 this truck was my life line and it almost cost me my job because of that fing dpf.

Hope this helps with problems
