i have a '99 Ram3500 4x4 with a 5 speed manual. Truck is bone stock but do a lot of towing with a 5th wheel cattle trailer, so i want to install some gauges to keep an eye on things. Going with the obvious EGT and BOOST gauge, but not sure about the 3rd gauge. Should/do I need a Trans Temp gauge with a manual? or would I be better off getting a Differential Temp gauge instead? anyone with some input would be great! thanks.

Actually it would be best to put a fuel pressure gage as your third gauge. Its real important to moniter your fuel going to the vp44 injection pump

Listen to Sandslinger! The fuel pressure gauge is the most important gauge on you STOCK ISB. The computer won't let the egt's or boost get to high. This will change if you put on reprogrammer therefore requiring gauges.
Average Pressures: stock truck (in pounds per square inch)
Idle – 10 to 14 psi Cruising – 8 to 12 psi Pulling a hill with trailer – 8 to 9 psi
Absolute minimum pressure is 8 psi (some say 12psi); anything below that and you need a upgraded lift pump such as a FASS pump.

sounds like i might be looking at getting 4 gauges then, seems like fuel pressure gauge would be a good idea. hows about the trans or diff temp?

probably trans. ive never heard of manual tranny's overheating unless they are low on oil, but that is the next most expensive thing on the truck. diff's are relatively cheap $500 or so, trannys are $2k.

i wouldnt worry much about trans temp with a manual as long as youn keep it sealed and at least 4 quarts in her, you wont have much of a problem with a stock motor and trans. heres what id get if i were you, in order of need
1) Fuel pressure gauge(if it falls below 8 psi, you better replace that lift pump or else major problems are on the way) 2) pryometer/EGT gauge- while towing its important to monitor your egts, anything over 1350 or so so start watching out 3 boost- its just fun to watch it spool up to 30 psi while stock
1999 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins 24 valve, 5spd with south bend 550hp+ clutch, 150 horse injectors, Fram Boost intake(for now), Edge Juice with attitude, 150 gph fass fuel pump and much more, all together 450 dyno proven HP and 1170 ft lbs. DPMAG May Ride of the Month
and a quote from Dmax007- this site is entirely the blind leading the blind. nobody on this site has the balls to stand up to this stupid blowin smoke gang. got news for you, i do.

thanks dukeboy, I think thats the way im going to go. I was looking at dieselmanor.com for a kit that is "pre-wired" and has everything i need, is that a good way to go or is it best to buy everything seperate and no it all my self? or if there is someone else who has better kit or similar i would be glad to hear you input.
