HI ALAN45, You haven't mention which diesel engine, you want to drop into the MAZDA truck, but all the big 3 companies diesel are going to be too heavy for your MAZDA??? IS IT WORTH ALL THE TROUBLE???

Alan;

There are lots of very good choices for your Mark 3 Mazda pickup.

In North America, the easiest is probably a VW TDi with a Toyota Transmission.

The Cummins 3.9 is way to0 heavy for a Mark 3.  A Cummins 3.3 is on the heavy side - even at 200 lbs lighter than a 3.9

Another choice is a Kubota:

And then you can look into engines not sold in the USA - overseas the Mazda pickup was offered with a diesel engine.

Yeah, I think a VW TDI would probably make the most sense. Maybe if you could find a turbodiesel out of a Mitsu Mighty Max or Dodge Ram D50, but I doubt you're going to find many low-mileage examples in good shape. Might be able to find a rebuild, though. Even turbocharged, though, I think they were only about 85 hp, stock.

I just picked up a 1987 mazda 2200 and also aquired a Isuzu C240, I intend to swap the C240 into the truck. I know that there are the obvious adaptions ie engine mounts, engine to gear box, flushing the fuel tank, making the fill larger. Someone told me that I would need to "split the clutch" pressure plate for the engine and clutch discs for the gear box. I own a company that builds metal boats so I can fab most anything I need. Does anyone have experience with this that could offer some advice?
