HI DIESELSMOKE69, I WOULD EXPLAIN TO HIM HOW BAD THE ECONOMY IS, AND PRICE OF DIESEL IS SKYROCKETING, HOW HARD IT IS TO SALE A TRUCK. HOW THE TRUCK HAS 244,000 MILES, SO YOU CAN LOWER THE PRICE A LITTLE MORE. NOW ABOUT THE TRUCK, DO YOU KNOW IT'S HISTORY, WITH THE OIL-CHANGES, SINCE HE HAS A CHIP, DID HE RACE, PULL, TOW WITH IT??? IF HE REPLACED THE PARTS YOU MENTION, HE SPENTED SOME $$$ ON HIS TRUCK. GIVE IT A GOOD CHECK-UP, ONE MORE THING, CHECK THE TRANNY, IF IT HAS A CHIP + THE 244,000 MILES I WOULD BE ASKING ABOUT THE TRANNY!!!! I WOULD ALSO CHECK THE COMPERSION IN EACH CYLINDER OF THE ENGINE, GIVE IT A GOOD DRIVE OFF-ROAD AND MAKE SURE THE 4WD WORKS RIGHT, AND THE TRUCK DOESN'T OVERHEAT. SORRY MY REPLY IS SO LONG, I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T GET BURNED!!!

ya, tell him you need to see the reciepts for the work done. do a good test drive take it through all of the gears hard listen for anything in the tranny. slam the brakes make sure they work good. look at all of the steel lines on the truck see if they are about to rust through. look at the suspension parts for anything about to break. maybe even take a prybar with you and check if any bushings are in tough shape. 244k that is a lot of miles even for a cummins, get it warmed up and work it hard to be sure it is in good shape.

with that many miles and all the upgrades and all the good suggestions to look over the main thing you and everybody else needs to look at or find out about is the gears in the diffs...with all the hotrodding, pulling and working the pisss out of it the gears are and will always take a beating, you want to make sure those are titts cause you dont want to get to SC via a roll back tow truck!

looks like a good truck. check reciepts carefully check miles between oil changes look for any gaps in changes. check the fluids and smell and rub between fingers feel for any metal particles etc. check service on diffs,    t-case and trans. ask last clutch replacement go over it carefully if it meets your needs and price just dont get hasty and look around compaire to other trucks in area

I would also check and see what kelly blue book says about what price is worth. All the new parts is a plus to a buyer but the loan value is still what your last chose is

to be honest, thats a lot of miles, even for a cummins. if he will let you take an oil sample from the engine. my biggest worry would be what happened to the 4BT in my old IH payloader. we ran coolant in it but this was before my education so we didnt put the correct additives in it. last week the motor was locked up and the pan was full of water, took it apart, the sleeves were pitted through so coolant was getting in the cylinder. 4BT and 6BT engines dont have removably sleeves so you will need a new block if that happens. take a coolant sample too if you can.

I myself have been looking around and i can tell you that the going price on these trucks are between 8000 and 14k depending on mileage. 244k is a little steep on any vehicle, however, if it trucks has been maintained decently and he can produce all of the recipts, id offer 8k for it, heres what id do if it were me, id go to autozone and get the little palm ECU/ECM code reader, and run the trucks ECU over to see if there are any hidden codes.  I myself, might have found a 99 with 200k on it, but same situation, all new suspension, new injection pump, fass pump, etc for around that same price.  Also, another thing you need to check is around the door hinges, if you see anything other then light surface rust, WALK away.  hope that helps
