Fellas. Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a Ram 2500 vs. the 3500 (single rear wheel, not the dually).

Is it just the suspension, cause the engine, tranny and brakes are all the same. I will ask at the dealer, but they don't always know their own name around here Grin .

Thanks.

HI Grover6, THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A 2500 and 3500 SRW IS THE 3500 HAS AN EXTRA LEAF SPRING, and THAT WILL COST YOU ABOUT $500 DOLLARS!!!!

what you should do is get a 2500 and put air bags on it. air bags are awesome.

FS-2500 Bypass Filter. The only hands that work on my truck are my own.

id say get the 2500 and put a set of air bags on it you will be able to haul and tow better and safer. but if you do need a 1ton truck get the 3500.

That sounds about right. I know the mechanical differences are pretty minimal.

when i bought my dodge truck it sat real low in the front compared to the back so i put a 2in leveling kit on it greatly improved its looks and im happy with but it never really leveled it out the way it was supposed to now i wish i would have put the 2.5in kit on. Any way i think my truck has had extra springs added to it.

Thanks for the response guys. I have an '05 2500. I was just curious what the difference was to get the extra 2200 lbs towing for the 3500 srw. I like the airbag idea, I think I will check into getting a set.

Hello guys, I have a 05 Dodge 2500 with a Cummins. I just purchased a new 5th wheel and this 5er is heavier then the one I traded. It's Max gross is 16K and Iam afraid it's to heavy for a 2500. I've added air bags to the rear which seems to help the squat. I am thinking about a new 3500 duelly, but Iam afraid of a BIG decrease in milage. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks

well if you get the 3500 you can get a gearvendors overdrive unit and that will increase your mpg.

HEY BUDDY, WHY NOT ADD AN EXTRA LEAF SPRING TO YOUR 2500, YOU ALREADY HAVE AIRBAGS!! IF YOU GO WITH A DUALLY, YOUR MPG'S WILL DROP!!!

Your 2500 should be able to handle the extra weight that the trailer puts on, ive seen guys around this area pulling trailers up around 18000 pounds and with their stock setup, you already have the airbags, which should almost keep you level.

The 3500 has larger driveline, larger brakes, an extrta leaf spring and 3000# more GVW. I pull a 40' 5th wheel that has a gross vehicle wt of 18000. Fully loaded, it was not leagal to tow with my 2500 (04 2500 with airbags, exhaust, programmer, intake and exhaust) and the factory would void the warranty. By going to the 3500, My gvw was raised by 3000# and kept my warranty in tact.

No matter if you have the 3500 or the 2500, the airbags a always a good idea

I thought that they also changed the rear axle size also. I thought that the usually put the 10.5 in the 2500 and put the 11.5 in the 3500 single wheel. am i wrong with this or what?
