Just bought a 03 duramax 4 door shortbox k2500, thinking about a stealth race tuner-215h-415t, volant intake-27h, and a RPM motoblue catback single 4" exhaust-35h. I'd like some input on if this would make a good combo

yes it sounds like a good combo your working on just remember to watch your egts and not burn up your new truck. You wont be able to run it on its highest mode all the time just to race. In future I check into some guages. And look at bullydog to and edge.

now if you want 215hp and 415 in tq over stock then youll need to do something also with the trans, the allison is a good trans but it cant take that much.

I've heard some bad things about the edge, such as your truck stalling, running rough after about a year, know anything about this?

personally instead of the catback exhaust i would go with a turbo back exhaust, espcially if you are gonna be running some pretty hardcore tunes on your rig, gonna want to free up that airflow as much as possible.

well the cat really impedes the flow of your exhaust and with the added fuel flowing through the engine the exhaust will get much hotter much faster, the less restriction you have in your exhaust the lower your egts will be.

I would go with what I have a Stealth 2 135 300 plus a Banks Ram Air System GM Perfromance exhaust with DURAMAX engraved in the tip, banks big head wastegate and a PPE turbo boost valve it will not tear anything up

I think the DURAMAX engraved in the tip adds like 500 horse or something. I think I'll engrave my tip on my Cummins with "eat schit" lol hahahahahaha

Larry or whoever, i would go with Edge i have never had any problems with them and their customer service is exceptional. The on the fly setting change is hard to beat. I would also look at PPE they make some pretty killer tunes for the Duramax. Let me know if you have any other queestions.

Do not put a PPE in unless u want to buy a new torque converter and tranny go with the Quadzilla Edge is good on Cummins not so much on Duramax

Well with the power increase he is looking at he is going to have to upgrade the trans anyways, no stock trans can take that kind of power increase over stock with out breaking. Another thing is dont run around all the time with the chip turned all the way up because that is how you destroy your transmission as well as heads and injectors and cp3s and the list goes on and on. The Edge is a great chip for all three trucks, because it wakes them up so much. The nice thing about the Edge is that you can control the backdown which essencially is the safety on the chip so when it hit a certain EGT limit the chip goes into "safe mode" and turns the fueling down and gets everything to a safer more reliable level. The PPE Hot+2 is prolly the second best plug in tuner that you can buy after EFI live. The Hot+2 offers extreme tunes and mild tunes to suit everyone. With EFI live you can make your own tunes and select safety settings to your prefrences. In reality it all comes down to you get what you pay for and if you buy a cheap chip you get cheap thrills that turn into expensive repairs. I have seen several Duramaxes come into the shop that have had ECM problems due to the chip that is on them. For some reason the Quadzilla stuff is really hard on the Duramaxs and we have seen a variety of problems resulting from people plugging in what the service advisors call the "monkey chip" where as we have not seen as many problems with other chips. Another bad one to buy is Banks. My buddy had one on his 04 LLY and it screwed up a bunch of stuff in the ECM and TCM and ended up costing him $2500 in repairs and now he runs the Edge stacked with EFI live and he doesnt have any problems. After you start adding horsepower you are going to have to look at replacing parts and getting better ones because the stock stuff on these trucks are already pushed to their limits.
