A feller at the shop is driving a 2003 Duramax/Allison 2500 4x4. He, like the rest of us, is really feeling the pinch of fuel prices and was asking me about these downloaders and modules that are marketed specifically for fuel mileage gains. He doesn't care about power gains (though he'll take them if they come along), he just wants economy.
So what's working for you D-Max guys? His tuck is bone stock and other than a "chip", as he calls it, he says it will stay that way. Thanks.

You'll need a programmer with lots of timing early, try PPE.

Well, that's a start. Anyone else? Surly there's a product out there that is standing out for helping a Duramax's MPG's.

I just saw that Edge Performance just came out with a Mileage Max line of tuners. I'm sure there are other similar products out there.

Yep, that's what he's looking for. Problem is, Edge hasn't brought out the Mileage Max for the Duramax yet and he's wanting something before he heads off to Montana (from Ohio) and back in about a month or so.

a tuner alone wont get ya better mpg you gotta do the intake and exhaust. it also helps doing the norm of keeping tires aired up, lose extra weight, drive like you own it not like you stole it.

Need some help from experienced duramax owners. I have a 2004 LB7 6.6 liter duramax 4x4 completely stock. It has 78K miles and I will be towing a 11K 5th wheel from Alabama to Washington state in a few weeks. I want to do something to increase my MPG and I'm looking at a Diablosport Predator to possibly help out. I have been looking at the forum here and trying to decipher the experienced talk about Air intake, Exhaust, and EGT gauges. I don't have the money for all of that presently, and was wondering if the tuner would be ok or would it hurt the truck without all of the other upgrades? I still have a GM warranty which takes me out to 100k. The MPG while towing is killing me, Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks, dbradleyjr

adding a tuner will increase timing and fuel, more fuel means higher egt, too high of egts when towing and fry a turbo.

2004DirtyMax is a moron he knows nothing about the Duramax. Being a GM diesel tech i have seen What Quadzillas products will do. We have had almost every problem imaginable from people using the Quadzilla. I would recommend Edge, PPE, EFI live, Diablo Sport and even Hypertech. Stay away from Bully Dog and Quadzilla, they will destroy injectors, trannys, injection pumps and about everything else. You'll want a chip that is reliable not one that destroys your truck and if you stay away from the above mentioned then you'll be ok. I used to swear by Bully Dog but after i saw what it did to my friends Cummins i stay away from them now. The best thing to gain mileage is add and intake and exhaust and then the chip. Even if you cant get the Mileage Max from Edge look at the Juice i have seen a huge increase in mileage and the last tank on my 2006 with the Juice on level one i got 25mpg!!!! Take it from a guy that works on the Duramax for a living or the monkey that cranks his Quadzilla and drives around, its up to you.

If you wanna hear what a Quadzilla tuner will do to your Duramax than watch this vid. I dunno if the vid is using Quadzilla but we had a Duramax do this in the shop and few weeks ago, it had a Quadzilla tuner on it too.
