I have had my tuner on my PSD for about 20k and my truck has 122k on it. Should I think about cleaning/servicing my turbo?  If so is it a shade tree job or a shop job?

if you have a 6.0L try this you can buy a new one from BD diesel or take it off and send it to industrial injection and they will rebuild it replace it

I would imagine a turbo rebuild/cleaning would be a job of a shop. I'm fairly mechanically inclined and I'm not sure I would feel comfortable putting such a vital part back together.

Are you wanting the turbo rebuilt or just cleaned? The inside of the turbo is bad for rusting and surface pitting at the unison ring. this will cause low power at take off and can be fixed easily.

i'm a diesel tech at a ford dealership cleaning the turbos on 6.0 is not as complicated as you would think as long as you take your time and mark the housings before dissaemble you should be fine if your truck is an 03 or early build 04 the back turbo bolt on pass side cna be a pain and strip

The turbos that can be cleaned are P/N 1837985C93, 1844127C91. You will need service kit P/N 1870713C1, this kit should have everything you will need to R&I the turbo and instructions how to clean. Any International dealer can get this kit.

Hey you really shouldn't need to service your turbo as long as you have been religious about changing your air filter and oil and oil filter. If you have anyother questions let me know i'm a ford diesel tech i'll be more than happy to help you out.
