Thanks for the posts, good stuff. I don't want to wait to buy a diesel. I want to pull the trigger in early '07 for my first one. Former gas choices were the 5.7 Hemi and 6.0 V8 from GM. My choices are an '06 Cummins dually leftover or the new 07 DMAX? Thanks in advance.

What are you going to use your new diesel for? Do you need a dually? If you intend to acually use your new truck (ie pulling a heavy horse trailer or big 5th wheel rv / camper /flatdeck / welding rig ect.) If so I would look at what most of the guys are using. You should go to a diesel repair shop (non brand specific) and ask the mechanic what's the differance between the three diesels(ie con rod bearing size, main bearing caps, ect) if your lucky he will show you the different parts and you can see for yourself. I've owned Chevy and Fords so I'm not brand loyal. When I did this research the choice was very clear CUMMINS. I would wait for the '07 6.7 its the same tride and true 5.9 just board/stroked and a new turbo. Good luck

The repair shop deal is a great idea. Thanks. You do have a point about the dually, the heaviest thing I will tow will be a 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer.

The 5.9 isn't the same in the light duty trucks as the buses and semis, but same block and similar. How can you compare the new 6.7 in the excavators to the one they will put in the light duty trucks???

The Cummins 6.7 found in excavators/forklifts ect is the same motor. It's known as the "QSB 6.7" Yeah there are some differances so to make it suit the industrial application I don't think they intercool excavators .The Cummins B can also be found in heavy trucks such as the F650/750.

Just remember 360 is the rated HP when the DMAX first came out it was rated at 300HP but when one of the local shops put one on the mustang dyno it was a disappointing 186HP. An episode of TRUCKS found the same results after some nice mods they showed 400HP.I would highly recommend closely looking at the trucks these motors come in. The GM guys talk about there car like ride but that comes at a cost. The front end won't take any weight. A buddy of mine put his camper on his Dmax and the front diff bent he had to buy an after market brace kit.The company that makes the kits to put a cummins in fords won't make one for GM because " The GM IFS cannot support the weight of the cummins." What about that frame? Dude, you can get high centered on a speed bump! It's to bad they won't change that frame and put a 60 up front it would be a sweet truck.

just to let you know most of the new engines in over the road semis already have twin turbos and they seem to be working out there and the unfortunately the 7.3 didnt meet emissions so it was either the 6.0 or ford diesel

nearly every change in design off diesels has been emissions related 98.5 dodges switched to 24 valves not for performance 03 was another emission year 6.0,5.9 h.p.c.r. and gm has done thru tuning ever since 2001 or whenever that motor came out once 2007 is another emmisions year.the gm guys better buy because your reliable 6.6's time is up soon it wont meet 2010 emmisions.cummins is already close with the 6.7 i believe and ford will also be ahead of gm.just cauase they released the new truck cause they where scared of the new tundra.i dont know how they keep changing the motor so much i cant keep up with all the LL whatever's.the new diesel power talks about the LLM or LMM whatever is is might be the last 6.6 duramaxs.thats why i got a 06 5.9 to have on of the last of the b5.9.get what you believe in

I just have 2 comments, 1: js67 you need to do more homework before you talk smack, cuz the D-Max is rated at 365hp, as well as the new Cummins. 2: BCRAM needs to check the HP, on all the big 3, on a real dyno to check their #'s as well as the D-Max. I'm sure you'll find the same for both the other manufacturers.
