I put two skid steers on a 36' goose neck with my 08 Cummins and my dad had a 32' goose on his loaded with an empty water tank but still heavy. He had around 18000 on his and mine had around 24000 I'm guessin and we raced. I kicked his ass his 08 Duramax couldnt even hold close to my truck and mine is lifted with 35s and a manual. His has 33s and an auto in all theroy he should have wasted me. He shoulda never traded off his 02 LB7 that he had. That truck would do anything. The new they get the weaker they seem to get.

Your favourite sound is Your opinion. I've heard most diesels with most exhausts they all sound ****in deadly. My buddy has the 7.3L and it's straight piped and it sounds deadly. I've heard duramaxes straight piped but they don't seem to sound as good as just equipped with AFE or MBRP. Dodges straight piped are something else.... i actually thought it was kind of ridiculously loud... but the next guy down the line might like that. My brothers duramax has AFE and is chipped... and when he punches it sounds awesome- I'd have to say it's my favourite of the three.

And about the 6.0 litre and cummins being the best and all that smear- We have two 06 duramaxes and they don't give any trouble... but i think a cummins would look a little better after 350,000 clicks. But really... you'll probably get rid of your truck by then anyway. Their all good trucks, and they all have their flaws. It depends what day of the week they were made on. don't go ape**** over this, but here's a good example. We had a 97 6.5 Detroit with 350 thousand clicks on it, and besides a fuel pump or three and some other minor repairs, that thing still ran fine and never missed a beet. But my buddy five miles away told me his was the biggest piece of Osama Bin Laden he's ever seen in his life and told me all the horror stories about it, and is now driving his cummins happily. As for ford, I havent heard much about the 6.4, but my buddy and his wife bought two 6.0's, and they both have over 300,000 clicks and they still run fine. So it just depends. They can be a piece of crap or the best truck you ever owned. It just depends if the robot welder got some action the night before he made your truck.

some of these posts on here or just flat out ridicolouse the dmax rated hp and torque is not rear wheel ford and dodge is measured at the rear wheel. the dmax is just put on a engine and trans dyno. My dad has a 97 dmax compared to my previously 7.3 and current 5.9 that thing is a wuss a 6000lb camper is all that d max wants but you line it up empty it will burn whatever you put beside it its frame sucks i seen thicker frames on a s10

meant 07 the dmax is clearly not made to withstand what a normal diesel can and for you people that think the aliison is the best thing since kool aid im a gm tech in the past month i've replaced 9 allison transmission and a butt load of ball joints and none of these trucks were over 100k miles. my honest opinon on the reason everyone loves a dmax is because chevrolet makes it you take the bowtie off the front and everyone will admit its the biggest piece of junk.

I believe needpower is correct. The new 4.5L half-ton Duramax is going to be built in Tonawanda, New York.

If you want an unbiased opinion about the best new HD diesel pickup out there, pick up the December 2007 edition of Popular Mechanics (or go to their website).
They ran all three pickups listed below through a battery of identical tests, and the GMC beat the other two by a mile.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am a GM guy, and own a 2004 CC D-Max stock.  I get better fuel mileage than my Ford and Dodge buddies pulling my 6,000 lb. camper than they get driving empty!!  My wife's uncle has a 6.0 Stroker which spends more time in the shop than it does on the road.  The 7.3 was a great engine but the genesis of that engine goes back to at least the 1970s. IH used to put the old 6.9 in medium duty trucks.  Ford made a GIANT step backward when they switched to the 6.0, which was done for emissions reasons.  They came up with the 6.4 because they needed something "fresh" to counter the very poorly engineered 6.0.

The cummmins engine has been selling Dodge pickups since it was first introduced in their pickups in the late 80s, or early 90s.  If it weren't for Dodge putting the cummins in these pickups, Dodge would probably have quit making pickups as they weren't selling many.

1st place:  GMC 3500 SLT.  The GMC simply blew the doors off of the Ford and Dodge in nearly every category.

2nd place:  Ford F-350 King Ranch.  Although as an old farm boy, having two turbos is ridiculous.  You can get plenty of boost out of one properly sized turbo.

3rd place:  Dodge RAM 3500 SLT

Case Closed.
