I am new to the PSD. I bought a 04 F250 PSD, it runs great, K&N filter system, wide open exhaust, Pulls my fifth/W great. My question is, are all PSD's noisy? My buddies dodge, is quiet...  This thing is loud enough that when I am at a drive thru, I gotta shut it down or I aint eatin... Any Ideas..    

Does it make any weird noises or does it just in general run loud? What year model is your buddies dodge?  

In my experience, Power Strokes are a little louder. The exception is the new 6.4s. Those are pretty quiet. I think the culprit is probably the HEUI injectors. Main thing with those bad boys is keep your oil super-clean, since they're hydro-electric.  

In general, it just sounds loud. It runs great, plenty of power. Its a 2004 6.0  My buddies dodge is a 07. I have an buddy with an 6.0 that is the same year as mine, he is bringing his to work tonight so we can compare them. But he said his is noisy also, (compared to the dodge). This is my first diesel, mybe Im just a little paranoid, Ive been reading the horror stories about the 6.0. I do change the oil at 3500  miles. Thanks for help...

powerstrokes are noisey compared to others due to the heui system well i blame it on that but personally real diesels clatter i hate the new ones. is your buddies 07 cummins a 6.7?  

Yep, its the new one. He hates the engine. My buddy brought his in and its just as loud. Just new diesel jitters i guess... Hey thanks for the input people... Im gonna pull my trailer like no other.. This diesel thing sure beats pulling with a gasser....

Yea diesels are supposed to be loud that the way god intended them lol.... My truck will prolly drown out your truck just sitting at idle so I wouldnt worry about it.

I don't know if this is true or not. Just something I heard. Might be one of the reasons your truck is running loud. When Ford first came out with the 6.0 PS for '03, it tried to do the pilot "pre-injection" pulses like the Dmax and the Cummins to quiet down the engine. Unfortunately, the HEUI injectors were not designed for that kind of duty cycle.

Supposedly, one of the first (of many) ECU re-flashes Ford did on the 6.0 was re-flashing the computer to effectively turn off the pre-injections, which made the injectors slightly more reliable, but also increased the "clatter."

Have any of you guys heard something similar?  

I found out that my truck has had no updates at all.... I am wondering, cause I bought it used , can I still go to ford and get the updates. i still have the buzzing form the injectors also. I will say this, I just got back from a trip to NY, I got 23.5 average on thet trip..
